Job description:

SolidWorks Engineer — Holland, MIFull-time, direct hire | $55,000–$65,000/year | Start: immediate

Join a family-oriented, faith-based custom metal fabrication shop (23–24 employees, founded 1979) specializing in material handling solutions — packaging, carts, dollies, racks, and custom flat beds in stainless steel. The shop runs advanced CNC fiber laser cutting, press brake operations, and on-site application engineering, and is expanding into aluminum and stainless fabrication.

What you'll do

  • Create detailed 3D CAD models and assemblies in SolidWorks, focused on weldments, flat sheet metal, and complex welded joints, from concept to production
  • Work directly with customers, sales, and the shop floor through on-site visits and iterative feedback to hit exact specs and deadlines
  • Handle quoting, estimating, and material takeoffs, balancing design accuracy with lead time and cost
  • Lead and mentor the 3-person design team, overseeing workflows and cross-training
  • Validate designs on the shop floor against laser cutting, press brake forming, MIG/TIG welding, and assembly realities

What you need

  • 2+ years of hands-on 3D CAD design in SolidWorks (3D modeling required; 2D not necessary)
  • Proficiency in weldments, sheet metal design, drawing creation, and library management
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-facing, team-player attitude — cultural fit matters most here
  • Ability to work on-site in a shop/office hybrid setting; US work authorization (no sponsorship)

Nice to have

  • Leadership or mentoring experience, or desire to grow into a department head role
  • Familiarity with custom fabrication: MIG for steel, TIG for stainless, basic aluminum handling
  • Background in material handling or industrial design; comfort with up to 60-hour weeks during peaks

What we offer

  • $55,000–$65,000 base salary, 401(k) matching, full health insurance, generous PTO and holidays
  • Monday–Thursday 7:30 AM–4:30 PM, Friday 7:30 AM–2:30 PM, with flexible start/end times
  • Clean, modern workstations, team events like Lions tailgates and Friday group outings, and a stable, growing team ($3–5M annual revenue)
