Solid Waste Worker

Ideal candidates will enjoy working outdoors and are highly motivated and eager to serve the community as part of a team that protects the environment through recycling and proper waste disposal.

This entry-level position performs litter collection both on-site and off-site at the landfill/recycling center, repairs and maintains fences and other structures, and handles and packages materials for treatment and shipment related to Household Hazardous Waste, E-Waste, and other diversion programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform litter collection at and around the landfill site.
• Use the necessary hand tools as needed.
• Observe safety throughout all phases of operation.
• Perform scale house duties.
• Maintain simple records and logs.
• Repair, construct, and maintain litter collection fences.
• Assist Solid Waste Collection Crews.
• Process and package materials for recycling & diversion programs.
• Assist with the composting program.

Qualifications and Requirements:

A combination of the following experience and training would be qualifying.

• Experience performing manual labor for extended periods in all weather conditions.
• Possession of a valid driver's license.
• Ability to work overtime and some Saturdays.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Working Conditions:

• Ability to sit, stand, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, crawl, twist, climb, and lift 75 pounds; exposure to cold, heat, noise, dust, outdoor environments, vibration, confined workspaces, and mechanical hazards; ability to travel to different sites and locations.
