Lincoln Transportation and Utilities is seeking a proactive, organized, and hands-on Solid Waste Operations Supervisor to guide daily landfill operations, support a skilled team, and ensure regulatory compliance at every step.
In this key leadership position, you will be involved in supervising daily operations relating to the management of solid wastes, including but not limited to the following specific facilities and programs: a MSW Landfill, a Construction and Demolition Waste Landfill, Organic Waste Composting, Transfer Station, Recycling Drop-Off Sites, landfill gas and leachate management systems, and environmental monitoring and management systems. You will oversee the day-to-day work of landfill operators and laborers, ensuring operations are safe, efficient, and aligned with local, state, and federal regulations. From managing special waste disposal and maintaining haul roads to coordinating equipment service and leading large-scale projects, you'll play an essential part in maintaining a high-quality public service for landfill users.
What Youll Do
Supervise, organize, and direct daily landfill operations, communicating operational changes, planning ahead for weather or equipment issues, and ensuring staff have the direction they need to work safely and productively.
Lead all facets of waste disposal operations including refuse, demolition materials, special waste, and small vehicle transfer areas ensuring compliance with the operating plan and maintaining safe, well-kept facilities.
Oversee, schedule, and at times perform maintenance and repairs for heavy equipment, rolling stock, and buildings to keep everything in safe working condition.
Maintain accurate operational and equipment records, including personnel time, maintenance histories, operational logs, surveying notes, and special waste tracking.
Coordinate and execute special projects, including drainage improvements, soil stockpile construction, litter control, weed management, recycling area upkeep, and wood-chipping operations.
Foster a positive, professional, and inclusive work environment by modeling strong attendance, teamwork, communication, and respect for coworkers and the public.
Train staff on safety protocols, operating procedures, equipment service requirements, and all elements of the operating plan.
Assist the Superintendent with capital planning, budget development, equipment specification drafting, and long-range operational needs.
Work Schedule
Generally, four - 10-hour days with hours between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m., and days of the week including Monday through Saturday. The position schedule will rotate with two other positions of the same classification.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from a senior high school or equivalent and experience in earthwork construction methods and heavy equipment maintenance and repair plus experience in a supervisory capacity; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge, abilities and skills.
Necessary Special Requirements
Possession of a valid drivers license when operating a vehicle is necessary to the satisfactory performance of assigned duties.
To be eligible for insurance benefits, employees must work at least 30 hours per week.
To be eligible for the retirement plan, employees must work at least 20 hours per week.
Temporary, seasonal, and unclassified employees are not eligible for benefits.
