Summary:
Solid Waste Driver, under the general supervision of the Foreman, drives a collection truck on a designated route, manually collecting and disposing of waste. This role involves vehicle operation, routine maintenance, issue reporting, and strict adherence to safety and traffic regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operates a solid waste collection vehicle following an established route utilizing route management software
- Enters and exits vehicle throughout route to push/pull containers, operate hydraulic mechanisms used in collection of debris and pick up small items as needed
- Deposits solid waste items at designated location (landfill, Brazos River Authority, etc.)
- Operates tablet software designed for assigned route
- Assists neighboring route(s) when needed
- Communicates with other drivers, office staff and supervisor to report problems in the field
- Completes daily vehicle maintenance checklist on routing software tablet and documents faulty/inoperable items
- Tops-off fuel tank(s) daily; washes, cleans and maintains interior/exterior of collection vehicle, to include packer bodies, collection mechanisms, storage areas, etc.
- Performs minor maintenance on trucks to include greasing of systems, light bulbs, mud flaps, etc.
- Ensures all safety equipment is operational (flashing caution lights, camera, etc.)
- Adheres to defensive driving rules, obeys traffic laws and follow city policies and safety guidelines
- Performs other duties /assumes responsibility for other routes and trucks as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
- Six months experience in waste collections or related field
