Overview
The Solar Farm Technician II is responsible for safely installing, operating, maintaining, and repairing solar systems to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. The role supports continuous power generation by independently diagnosing and resolving technical issues, collaborating with team members, and contributing technical expertise to ongoing operations and improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Test, maintain, and troubleshoot solar PV electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Ensure that all tasks are performed safely and by site operating procedures.
  • Complete Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO), JSA’s, Permit to Work, and job-specific documentation for safe inspection, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies.
  • Perform data collection and prepare reports to meet reporting requirements.
  • Perform balance of plant and switchyard work as needed.
  • Monitor maintenance contractor activities and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Conduct electrical testing, including insulation and thermal testing.
  • Document all work and generate reports accordingly.
  • Use Microsoft Office tools for communication, presentation, and documentation.
  • Utilize computer software for maintenance support and troubleshooting.
  • Identify safety gaps and safety risks in the environment.
  • Assist with BOP activities as needed.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies or situations requiring immediate troubleshooting and corrective actions.
  • Ensure site access, security, deliveries, and inspections adhere to protocols.
  • Interface with third-party contractors and vendors.
  • Support nontraditional operating hours for maintenance and emergent issues.
  • Operate mobile equipment such as mowers, forklifts, tractors, excavators, and motor vehicles.
  • Represent the company professionally with contractors, vendors, and community partners.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited US school preferred.
  • Current Nevada State PV Installers license, NABCEP Certification, or Electrical License preferred.
  • Unrestricted driver’s license in good standing required.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a maintenance electrician or 4 years as a multi-craft maintenance technician with electrical work in an industrial setting; or 2 years’ experience in power generation, transmission, or distribution Operations and Maintenance.
  • Experience in solar operations and maintenance a plus.
  • Skills in power plant operations, electrical and mechanical equipment maintenance, and substation maintenance.
  • Competent in power plant safety protocols and electrical safety.
  • Understanding of NEC standards.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of environmental and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and evolving schedules.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to multiple sites.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient with computers and office equipment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Complete all required training satisfactorily and on time.
  • First aid/CPR/AED certification preferred.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and troubleshoot effectively.
  • Physical ability to perform field duties, including walking, climbing, lifting tools and equipment over 50 lbs., and working in extreme weather conditions.
