The System Performance Architecture team is responsible for all aspects of performance spanning hardware (CPU, GPU, DRAM, storage), software (OS, drivers, applications), and other system characteristics (thermals, power, acoustics). This spans performance modeling, guiding architecture tradeoffs, performance verification, performance debug, and workload characterization.

We have an outstanding opportunity for a Software Prototyping Engineer to define the future of Apple Silicon platforms. This position is a multi-disciplinary engineering role encompassing software development, computer system design, and workload analysis. The candidate will spearhead prototyping efforts around emerging workflows (including AI/ML, gaming, consumer, and developer domains) to influence the next generation of Apple products.Implement software prototypes of emerging workflows in the AI/ML, gaming, consumer, and developer domains. Collaborate with System Architecture and Software Engineering teams on workflow definition and feasibility analysis. Drive workload optimization and debugging efforts to understand software and operating system bottlenecks in workflows. Develop and improve internal tooling infrastructure around workload data collection (including power, performance, thermal management, memory management, and battery life). Bachelors Degree in EE or Computer Engineering and minimum 6 years of industry experience in Computer Architecture, performance analysis, or hardware modeling Experience with macOS, iOS, and/or iPadOS Experience with PnP (Power and Performance) analysis and telemetry Proficiency in C, C++, Python, and Swift Experience in software engineering, workload profiling, analysis, and debugging
Masters Degree in EE/Computer Engineering or equivalent of relevant working experience is preferred Exposure to Camera, Filesystem, and Networking software stacks. Experience with GPU APIs (e.g., Metal, OpenGL, OpenCL). Understanding of macOS power, thermal, and battery management algorithms. Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences across hardware and software teams Excellent written and verbal communication skills
