Manufacturing, tooling, and facilities engineers design the machinery, tooling, and factory layouts that build Tesla vehicles, and the software they use needs a product owner who understands that work firsthand. Design Technology, which is part of Vehicle Engineering, builds the internal tools that thousands of engineers use every day. As the product manager for the new Manufacturing Design Technology team, you will decide what that team builds and make sure manufacturing engineers actually use it.
Own the product roadmap for manufacturing and facilities design software, ranked by impact on production
Work on the floor and with manufacturing, tooling, and facilities engineering leaders to find the problems worth solving
Write clear requirements and acceptance criteria the engineering team builds against
Choose and prove out SI-assisted workflows on top of SolidWorks, 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX), and many other commercial and in-house software for manufacturing design
Drive rollout, training, and adoption, and measure whether shipped tools changed how engineers work
Represent manufacturing requirements in work with software vendors, including Dassault Systèmes
Hands-on experience in manufacturing, process, or tooling engineering, ideally in automotive or high-volume production
Experience running cross-functional projects or rolling out software or process changes to engineering or production teams
Ability to turn vague, cross-organization problems into a clear, written plan
Familiarity with PLM and CAD platforms, ideally SolidWorks and 3DEXPERIENCE, or manufacturing execution systems
Comfort working directly with suppliers and software vendors
Evidence of exceptional ability: what you built, your part in it, and the result
