We are seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead the development, delivery, and ongoing support of enterprise digital platforms, including customer-facing web and mobile applications.
This role combines hands-on technical leadership with engineering team management, requiring a strong understanding of modern cloud-native architectures, application security, and software delivery best practices. The successful candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, architects, and engineering teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing digital solutions.
The ideal candidate brings a strong technical foundation and the ability to make architectural decisions, evaluate technical designs, troubleshoot complex production challenges, and guide engineering teams through the full software development lifecycle. While direct coding is not a primary responsibility, the ability to contribute technically when needed is highly valued.
This individual will lead a combination of internal engineers and external technology partners while driving engineering excellence, continuous improvement, and innovation within a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Engineering Leadership & Delivery
Oversee the end-to-end software development lifecycle for customer-facing web and mobile platforms.
Lead engineering planning, prioritization, estimation, release coordination, and production deployments.
Manage and mentor a blended team of software engineers, quality assurance professionals, and external consulting resources.
Provide technical direction and oversight to ensure solutions meet standards for scalability, performance, reliability, maintainability, and security.
Collaborate with enterprise architects and senior technical resources to evaluate architectural approaches and guide platform modernization.
Partner with business stakeholders and product teams to translate requirements into actionable engineering deliverables.
Establish engineering best practices and promote accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Support the professional development of team members through coaching, performance management, and technical mentorship.
Evaluate and introduce AI-driven tools and practices to improve development efficiency, software quality, and digital user experiences.
Technical Architecture & Engineering Oversight
Provide technical leadership for cloud-native applications hosted within AWS environments.
Guide architectural decisions involving serverless computing, APIs, data services, identity management, and application integrations.
Review technical designs and ensure alignment with established engineering standards and enterprise architecture principles.
Oversee CI/CD processes, automated testing strategies, and deployment automation to improve software delivery.
Lead technical troubleshooting efforts for complex application issues, including production incidents, performance bottlenecks, and integration failures.
Ensure appropriate application monitoring, logging, observability, and operational support practices.
Promote secure software development practices, including vulnerability management, automated security scanning, and identity and access controls.
Oversee mobile application delivery processes, including application store releases, approvals, and version management.
Cloud & Application Architecture
Strong experience with AWS cloud services, including Lambda, AppSync, DynamoDB, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, WAF, and Redshift.
Deep understanding of cloud-native application architectures, serverless technologies, APIs, and distributed systems.
Experience designing and supporting scalable, highly available customer-facing applications.
DevOps & Software Delivery
Experience with CI/CD automation and source control technologies such as Git, Bitbucket, AWS CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, and CodePipeline.
Familiarity with artifact management, dependency management, and software security tooling such as Sonatype.
Experience implementing automated testing practices using tools such as Playwright or comparable frameworks.
Understanding of application observability, monitoring, logging, and incident management.
Security & Identity Management
Strong understanding of application security principles and secure software development practices.
Experience with authentication and authorization technologies, including SAML, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, AWS Cognito, and Okta.
Familiarity with vulnerability scanning, remediation processes, and cloud security controls.
Web & Mobile Applications
Experience overseeing the development and operational support of modern web and mobile applications.
Understanding of mobile application deployment processes, including Apple App Store and Google Play release management.
Familiarity with API integrations, application performance optimization, and digital platform reliability.
10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including several years in a technical leadership or engineering management capacity.
Demonstrated success leading engineering teams responsible for customer-facing web and/or mobile applications.
Strong technical background in AWS, cloud-native development, and modern software architecture.
Experience managing a combination of full-time employees, contractors, and external technology partners.
Proven ability to evaluate architectural designs, guide technical decisions, and resolve complex engineering challenges.
Experience working within Agile software development environments.
Strong understanding of software development lifecycle management, release processes, and production support.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
Self-directed, collaborative, and comfortable taking ownership of engineering delivery and operational outcomes.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
Experience supporting digital platforms within financial services, insurance, or other highly regulated industries.
