Key Responsibilities:
  • Developing a digital twin environment for Robotics and Enabling Technology applications is a key responsibility.
  • Migrating the current Mako OR simulator to NVIDIA Isaac Sim involves updating and transferring existing assets.
  • Expanding the environment includes supporting OR layout optimization, robotic system simulation, sensor simulation, and future AI model development.
  • Working closely with clinical application, robotics, and software engineering teams helps in establishing a representative simulation environment.
  • Building a technical foundation for simulation-based evaluation, workflow studies, and AI model training is essential.
  • Migrating assets from the existing OR simulator to Isaac Sim involves leveraging its import and scene definition capabilities.
  • Setting up an articulation controller to control joint positions of the robot facilitates precise movements.
  • Connecting the simulation to ROS2 enables controlling the robot using existing functionality.
  • Evaluating the use of Isaac Sim for OR layout optimization ensures the environment is effective for various studies.
  • Implementing or extending missing features supports layout, access, collision, and workflow analyses.
  • Developing a physics model for tool-tissue interaction allows accurate simulation of bone resection and tissue manipulation.
  • Integrating a variety of sensor models into the simulation enhances realism and functionality.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; a Master’s or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in software engineering or related fields.
  • Strong proficiency in Python programming within Linux environments.
  • Practical experience with robotics hardware development and CAD modeling.
  • Hands-on experience with simulation tools such as NVIDIA Isaac Sim, Gazebo, Webots, Unity, or MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Knowledge of physics modeling and simulation.
  • Ability to integrate sensor models into complex simulations.
  • Experience connecting simulation environments to ROS2 for robot control.
