Software Engineer V
Location: 100% Onsite Redmond, WA (Preferred) | Also open to Burlingame, CA or New York, NY
Duration: 6-month contract with strong potential for extension
Start Date: Early to mid-September
Pay Rate: $90 - $95/hr on W2

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer V to join a team developing large-scale backend infrastructure supporting next-generation consumer technologies. This role is ideal for a senior engineer with deep expertise in C++, distributed systems, and high-performance backend architecture. You will design, build, and optimize scalable systems that power complex software platforms while collaborating closely with cross-functional engineering teams.

The ideal candidate combines exceptional software engineering fundamentals with hands-on experience building distributed services, solving complex scalability challenges, and delivering high-quality production code in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend systems using modern C++.
  • Build scalable distributed systems capable of supporting high-throughput, low-latency applications.
  • Design and implement asynchronous, multithreaded software with a strong understanding of memory management, pointers, and concurrency.
  • Develop robust backend services with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance optimization.
  • Optimize horizontal scaling strategies and improve distributed system architecture.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues across distributed environments.
  • Collaborate with software engineers and cross-functional partners to deliver technical solutions aligned with product goals.
  • Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical design decisions.
  • Produce clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following engineering best practices.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively to engineering stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience developing production-quality software.
  • Strong expertise in C++ with extensive experience developing complex applications and Asynchronous programming and concurrency
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems architecture and large-scale backend development.
  • Hands-on experience with asynchronous programming, multithreading, concurrency, and synchronization.
  • Strong understanding of memory management, pointers, and low-level systems programming.
  • Experience designing scalable backend services and distributed architectures.
  • Knowledge of horizontal scaling techniques and distributed computing principles.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills across complex software systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering high-quality software in collaborative engineering environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP) systems or AI-powered backend services.
  • Experience developing software for voice assistants, conversational AI, or intelligent assistant platforms.
  • Background working on large-scale distributed systems at major technology companies.
  • Experience building highly available, low-latency backend infrastructure supporting consumer products.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies, hypervisors, or infrastructure optimization.
  • Experience working in large engineering organizations with complex distributed architectures.

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Strong computer science fundamentals and software engineering principles.
  • Expertise in designing scalable distributed backend systems.
  • Ability to write efficient, maintainable, and production-ready C++ code.
  • Experience solving complex systems and performance challenges.

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills within cross-functional engineering teams.
