    Highlights

Get ahead of the next scaling limit by anticipating where the architecture will break as we scale, planning for it rather than reacting, and leading the large-scale infrastructure and architecture migrations that incremental tuning cannot solve. You will face and solve hard technical problems with real production impact, bring deep expertise in at least one core area, and have the judgment to know which bottleneck is worth attacking first.

    Description

    About You

Loop's systems team owns the layer everything else runs on. Volume through our platform is growing faster than the current architecture was designed for, and closing that gap is the job. You will work close to the code while thinking deeply about scalability and performance, spending your time on system design, database and runtime performance, and observability. You will need to understand how and why our product features work, without necessarily building new ones yourself. Much of the highest-leverage work is not fixing bottlenecks yourself but partnering with other engineering teams so they can make their own systems faster. You will face and solve hard technical problems with real production impact, bring deep expertise in at least one core area, and have the judgment to know which bottleneck is worth attacking first. You will shape the Loop DNA and define how we grow as a company.

    Responsibilities

    • Set the architectural direction for scale and partner with product engineering teams to get there. A large part of this role is reviewing designs with scale in mind and raising the engineering bar rather than only fixing things for other teams.
    • Own observability for the systems that carry the most load. Improve and expand our performance monitoring, which lets us catch bottlenecks before they turn into incidents.
    • Find and eliminate the bottlenecks slowing the platform down today, taking on the hardest performance problems and production incidents directly and turning them into durable fixes rather than patches.
    • Get ahead of the next scaling limit by anticipating where the architecture will break as we scale, planning for it rather than reacting, and leading the large-scale infrastructure and architecture migrations that incremental tuning cannot solve.

    Qualifications

    • Work in the SF office 4+ days a week.
    • Three or more years of software engineering experience, with meaningful time spent on backend, platform, or infrastructure systems in production. This is not a new grad role, and we are open to a range of levels, from strong mid-level through senior.
    • A track record of performance and scaling work on production systems. You have been somewhere where the load grew significantly, and you can explain what broke, how you found it, and what you changed.
    • Deep expertise in at least one of PostgreSQL, Node.js performance, or cloud infrastructure such as AWS, with working familiarity across the other two. We do not expect anyone to be an expert in all three; real depth in one, plus enough context to reason about the others, is the bar.
    • Strong written communication and the ability to influence architecture decisions on teams you do not own.
    • Experience leading a large-scale architecture migration, or with high-throughput data or workflow systems, is a plus alongside depth in one of the areas above.

    Under the Hood

    • Infrastructure: AWS, CDK, Fargate ECS
    • Backend: TypeScript, Node.js, Prisma, NestJS, PostgreSQL, Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch, GraphQL
    • Frontend: TypeScript, React, Relay, Ant Design, Vite, GraphQL
    • Orchestration: Temporal

Actual compensation will depend on job-related factors, including experience, skills, qualifications, location, and business needs.

In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for equity. This role is also eligible for Loop's benefits, including health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) match, paid time off, paid holidays, and parental leave.

    About Company

    The AutoLoop History

Building on the past, working for the future

From its very conception, AutoLoop was designed to enhance the connection between dealerships and their customers. Using innovative technologies, we set out to build a marketing/communication platform that could maximize retention rates and ultimately boost dealer profits.

It took years of development, practical applications and extensive field testing, but our unique concept of fully integrated programming has won us fans and accolades, and we have stood by our commitment to deliver a single-source advanced marketing platform.

Today, we serve over 2000 dealers, plus large groups and manufacturers with our staff of nearly 200 professionals focused on providing them great service. We analyze millions of data files every day, seeking newer and better ways to target customers and influence their automotive decisions. We’ve adopted an industry-changing axiom of “Retention through Engagement”—and our dealers are benefitting.

At AutoLoop, we will always be “under construction.” We’re committed to learning from experience, constantly exploring new ways to enhance customer engagement and retention. Our future success will parallel the success of our dealers as we seek a great return on investment for all.
