Software Engineer

Location: New York, NY
Compensation: $400K to $1M+ total compensation, with flexibility for exceptional candidates

Overview

This role sits inside a technically rigorous engineering organization where performance, scale, reliability, and computational efficiency have direct consequences. The work spans distributed systems, large-scale data infrastructure, high-performance computing, and mathematical and analytical tooling, with engineers, researchers, and quantitative thinkers working side by side on shared problems.

The position is not defined by a fixed specialty. Engineers take on problems that are computationally intensive and often ambiguous, own them from architecture through production, and are expected to reason from first principles rather than execute against a predetermined roadmap. The emphasis is on building new platforms and tools, not maintaining existing ones.

Candidates across experience levels will be considered. The common requirement is exceptional technical ability and a demonstrated record of standing out.

What You'll Do

• Design and build sophisticated systems for complex, computationally intensive workloads
• Develop high-performance distributed systems that process and react to very large volumes of data
• Take ownership of critical systems from architecture through implementation and production
• Improve scalability, reliability, latency, and computational efficiency across core systems
• Build new platforms and tooling rather than maintain legacy technology
• Collaborate directly with engineers, researchers, and quantitative teams across disciplines

What We're Looking For

• Exceptional software engineering and computer science fundamentals
• Outstanding analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving ability
• Strong experience designing and building sophisticated software systems
• Deep understanding of one or more of: algorithms, data structures, distributed systems, systems architecture, high-performance computing
• Ability to reason from first principles and work through difficult, ambiguous technical problems
• Track record of ownership and delivery on technically demanding projects
• Exceptional record of academic, technical, or professional achievement

Preferred

• Experience with large-scale data infrastructure or systems where latency and throughput are measurable business constraints
• Background bridging engineering with quantitative or research-oriented work

Compensation

Total compensation of $400K to $1M+, with flexibility for truly exceptional candidates. The organization provides the infrastructure and resources required to execute on hard engineering problems, and exceptional performance can lead to significantly expanded responsibility.
