Software Engineer — Charging Vendor Integrations

Our client operates its own charging network and relies on third-party charging providers such as EVgo across multiple hardware manufacturers and vendor platforms.

The team is building a single vendor gateway to integrate these different charging providers. You will own the gateway end-to-end, including protocol clients, abstraction layers, onboarding tooling, and the live service contract that fleet systems depend on.

This is a backend-focused engineering role at the intersection of third-party APIs, real-time systems, and EV-charging protocols.

Primary Stack: Python + React

You will work primarily in Python, with React supporting charger onboarding and operations tooling.

• Build and operate production-grade backend services and API integrations.

• Develop integrations with third-party charging providers and vendor platforms.

• Design canonical data models and abstraction layers across heterogeneous systems.

• Build reliable integrations with inconsistent or unreliable external APIs.

• Develop event-driven and real-time systems supporting fleet consumers.

• Implement reliability patterns including retries, graceful degradation, monitoring, and observability.

• Develop and maintain React-based charger onboarding and operations tools.

• Deploy, monitor, and operate services in cloud environments.

• Collaborate across engineering, infrastructure, and fleet platform teams.

• Own services throughout the complete lifecycle-from development and deployment to production operations.

• Strong hands-on Python development experience.

• Production experience building backend services and API clients.

• Experience with modern Python frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, or Flask.

• Strong REST API / webhook integration experience.

• Experience working with SQL and vendor databases.

• Strong understanding of data modeling and data normalization.

• Experience with React; TypeScript is a plus.

• Experience with event-driven systems, message queues, or streaming platforms such as Kafka.

• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.

• Experience with Docker/containers and CI/CD.

• Strong understanding of production observability, monitoring, retries, and service reliability.

• Hands-on experience with OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol).

• Experience with OCPI (Open Charge Point Interface).

• Previous experience in EV charging, EVSE, energy, telematics, or IoT device fleets.

• Experience normalizing data from multiple hardware manufacturers or vendor platforms.

• DevOps/SRE experience, including IaC, CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, and monitoring.

• Experience working with real-time charging/session/status data.

• Local candidates to Foster City, CA only.

• Must be able to work onsite 4 days per week.

• Day 1 onsite required.

• Mid Senior level backend/software engineering experience preferred.
