JOB DESCRIPTION: Seeking a Software Engineer with a strong combination of software development and power systems expertise to support the STABLE (Stability and Transfer Analysis for Broad Location Evaluation) initiative. This role will focus on designing and developing automation tools that streamline outage coordination studies, stability assessments, and operational planning activities. The engineer will build software that integrates data from multiple power system applications, automates VSAT and TSAT studies, and provides reporting and visualization capabilities to support transmission outage analysis across the CLIENT footprint. The ideal candidate will have experience in power system modeling, stability analysis, and application development, with the ability to create scalable, production-grade tools that improve operational efficiency and study accuracy.
RESPONSIBILITIES:- Design, develop, test, and maintain software tools that automate outage coordination and power system stability assessment workflows.
- Build prototype and production applications that connect EMS models, outage data, and power system datasets to support operational planning activities.
- Develop integrations with EMS, PI, CIMSpy, CROW, and other power system data sources.
- Automate steady-state and dynamic stability studies using VSAT and TSAT.
- Create workflows to apply outages, build stressed base cases, define transfer scenarios, and execute contingency analyses.
- Develop APIs, scripting interfaces, and automation routines to streamline study execution and data processing.
- Design and develop user interfaces using technologies such as Tkinter or similar GUI frameworks.
- Generate reports, dashboards, visualizations, transfer margins, and impact assessments for system planning and operational decision-making.
- Support transmission outage analysis by evaluating system impacts, transfer capabilities, and reliability considerations.
- Collaborate with power system engineers and subject matter experts to validate models, assumptions, and study results.
- Perform software testing, regression testing, benchmarking, and validation activities to ensure solution accuracy and reliability.
- Document software designs, workflows, technical specifications, test results, and deployment procedures.
- Support deployment, configuration, troubleshooting, and ongoing enhancement of developed applications.
- Ensure compliance with cybersecurity, data governance, and operational reliability standards.
REQUIREMENTS:- Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Power Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 3+ years of software development experience; 6+ years preferred.
- Strong programming and application development skills.
- Experience developing production-grade software, automation tools, or engineering applications.
- Understanding of electric power systems, transmission operations, stability analysis, or utility operations.
- Experience supporting power system studies, outage coordination, contingency analysis, or operational planning activities.
- Knowledge of power system modeling and analysis tools such as VSAT, TSAT, or similar platforms.
- Experience integrating and processing data from multiple operational systems and databases.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging abilities.
- Experience developing reporting, visualization, and dashboard solutions.
- Ability to work independently in a highly technical environment with minimal customer-facing responsibilities.
