Description

Optical Automation Software Engineer

Education:
BS degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
Experience:
3-5 years of experience in software development, strong emphasis focused on hardware-software integration, test automation, or optical metrology.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Python programming for hardware control, automation, and data analysis.
  • Computer Vision applications, using OpenCV or similar image processing libraries.
  • Proven experience developing software interfaces for peripheral devices, including motion stages, industrial cameras, illumination sources, and optical measurement equipment, across both Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Ability to integrate custom analytical algorithms and third-party data processing libraries.
  • Familiarity with modern AI coding agents to accelerate development cycles and problem-solve complex logic.
  • Experience working with ISO 13485, FDA design control regulations, and working within a highly regulated Quality Management System is highly preferred.
Responsibilities of the Position:
  • Develop/deploy and maintain custom software applications utilized for precision engineering analysis and daily production manufacturing.
  • Program hardware abstraction layers to synchronously control and communicate with peripheral metrology devices via USB, Serial, Ethernet, or vendor-specific APIs.
  • Design and execute automated data collection sequences, ensuring accurate synchronization between physical motion stages and image capture hardware.
  • Implement computer vision routines to automate the inspection, measurement, and alignment of complex optomechanical systems.
  • Architect automated reporting systems that generate detailed technical reports and diagnostic logs for quality control.
  • Lead root cause analysis to solve complex software bugs or hardware integration challenges.
  • Ensure all software development activities, version control, and documentation comply with ISO 13485 standards.
  • Develop and execute software validation activities to ensure applications meet functional, quality, and regulatory requirements.
