    Description

AWS Security is looking for a Software Development Manager to lead the team that builds security tooling for a U.S. Government program in a classified environment. Your team will build and run the internal tools, automation, and services that help security engineers detect, assess, and respond to risk faster and at greater scale.

You will own the security tooling roadmap from requirements through production, and balance new capabilities with operational excellence. You"ll work with security engineers, systems development engineers, program managers, and Government counterparts to decide which tools matter most and deliver them. You will hire and develop strong engineers and build a culture of ownership, high standards, and continuous improvement.

This position requires that the candidate selected be a US Citizen and must currently possess and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Lead, hire, and develop a team of software development engineers, and set clear goals and performance expectations.
    • Own the security tooling roadmap, working with security engineering customers to prioritize the tools that most reduce risk and manual effort.
    • Deliver secure, scalable, and maintainable tooling and automation from design through deployment and operations.
    • Drive technical design reviews and architecture decisions for security tooling services.
    • Set operational excellence standards, including CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and on-call health.
    • Report progress, risks, and adoption metrics clearly to senior leadership.

    A day in the life

You start with your team"s stand-up, clear any blockers in tooling deployment pipelines, and review overnight operational metrics. Mid-morning, you lead a design review for a new automation service that will replace a manual security workflow, and push the team to simplify. You meet with security engineers to learn where their current tools slow them down, then turn what you hear into next quarter"s roadmap. In the afternoon, you coach an engineer one-on-one, interview a candidate, and brief leadership on tooling adoption and risk. Your team"s tools help the whole security organization move faster.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
