    Description

Security should move at the speed of the builder, not the other way around. The Security Automation team is looking for a Software Development Manager to build and lead a team that brings agentic and automation experiences to the hundreds of thousands of builders and security engineers who ship software at Amazon. The experiences you own help builders find and fix security issues as they write code, and help security engineers do their highest judgment work instead of repetitive manual steps. Your work is used across Amazon to help teams ship software securely at the speed and scale of the world's largest startup.

You will join an established organization and own the design and delivery of agentic experiences such as in context security guidance, automated and candidate fixes, and self service workflows that let builders resolve issues without leaving their tools. You will hire and lead a full two pizza team of Software Development Engineers and set your team's technical direction in service of a broader automation and agentic vision.

This is a mix of building new systems and extending existing ones. You will measure success by how much you compress the time from idea to securely deployed in production, so that security becomes an accelerant for builders rather than a checkpoint they wait on.

    Key job responsibilities

    • You are accountable for the team's structure, software, and strategic direction.
    • You partner with engineers on your team by delegating oversight of components, processes, and operations.
    • You lead with empathy and recognize the need to create a sustainable workload for your team. You understand that there will be times where extra effort is needed to meet business goals, and you lead your team through those situations with positivity.
    • You build a team that delivers successfully without you. When you are involved, you use your technical judgment to question proposals and test assumptions in order to improve the outcome for customers, stakeholders, and your team.
    • You independently own a software architecture, product, or suite of products with considerable business impact. The software is part of a larger business strategy.
    • You work backwards from the customer, defining a vision of their need and how the product at hand will successfully resolve it.
    • You tackle complex problems and proactively mitigate risks before they become roadblocks.
    • You provide your team with the necessary support to take responsibility for their systems end to end.

    A day in the life

You lead a team that treats security automation as a product. You review designs for new agentic experiences, coach your engineers through hard technical tradeoffs, and work with security engineers and builders to make sure what you ship removes friction rather than adding it. You keep the team focused on the north star: every manual step you eliminate is time a builder gets back and risk that is resolved earlier.

You identify areas where new best practices and workflows are needed and develop them. You prioritize and delegate work while clearing roadblocks to success, delegating as necessary while maintaining ownership.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
