    Description

Amazon CloudWatch Logs is one of the largest log management platforms in the world, ingesting petabytes of log data daily from millions of customers across every AWS region. From startups debugging their first Lambda function to enterprises running mission-critical workloads, CloudWatch Logs is the foundation customers rely on to ingest, store, search, and analyze their operational data. When our systems work well, customers gain instant visibility into the health and behavior of their applications without thinking about the infrastructure underneath.

We are looking for a Software Development Manager to lead a team at the core of CloudWatch Logs. You will partner with teams across CloudWatch, AWS Observability, and the broader AWS organization to align on priorities and deliver solutions that meet the needs of customers at every scale.

This is a role where people leadership and technical depth are equally important. You will hire and develop engineers, raise the bar on design rigor and operational excellence, and build a culture of ownership and inclusion. You will hold your team accountable for the availability and correctness of systems that customers and the business depend on, and you will drive improvements that compound over time.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Own operational excellence for the team"s systems, including deployment safety, metrics, on-call health, and availability targets for a service operating at massive scale.
    • Build mechanisms that scale team operations while maintaining end-to-end ownership - including operational reviews, design reviews, and engineering best practices.
    • Recruit, mentor, and develop engineers. Build a culture of ownership, inclusion, and technical depth.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
