    Description

Amazon Quick is building an AI-native work surface that understands what users want to accomplish and figures out how to get it done. We are looking for a Software Development Manager to lead a high-performing software development team to deliver the third-party integrations that connect Quick to the business systems users rely on every day, enabling AI agents to take real action on their behalf. In this role, you will own the technical vision and roadmap for your team"s products, tackle ambiguous problems, and shape solutions that scale. You will combine your technical depth with people leadership to grow engineers, define architecture, and deliver results that directly influence business outcomes. If you are energized by building great teams and great software in equal measure, we want to hear from you.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Lead and grow a software development team, establishing team structure and strategic direction while coaching engineers across multiple levels to reach their full potential.
    • Own the 1-2 year technical roadmap for your team"s software systems, partnering with product management and cross-functional stakeholders to prioritize projects that maximize customer impact.
    • Drive system design decisions by evaluating tradeoffs in scalability, maintainability, performance, and security, and ensure your team delivers high-quality, well-tested software aligned with engineering best practices.
    • Create operational mechanisms and metrics to monitor system health, track progress against goals, and continuously improve the customer experience.
    • Identify opportunities to integrate generative artificial intelligence tools and practices into your team"s workflows, evaluating outputs and applying responsible AI principles to augment productivity and quality.

    A day in the life

You start your morning reviewing operational dashboards and triaging any issues before joining a design review where your engineers present a proposal for a new service component. You ask clarifying questions, test assumptions, and help the team refine their approach. After a roadmap alignment session with partner teams, you shift focus to a one-on-one with a direct report, discussing their career goals and mapping out a development plan. Later, you review a narrative document for an upcoming initiative, sharpening the problem statement and ensuring the proposed solution addresses real customer needs.

    About the team

Our team builds and maintains software systems that are critical to Amazon"s operations, and we take pride in delivering reliable, scalable solutions that customers depend on every day. We operate in an inclusive, collaborative environment where engineers are encouraged to experiment, simplify, and learn from each iteration. We are focused on long-term technical investments that position us for growth, and your leadership will play a key role in shaping both the technology and the culture of the team as we scale.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
