    Description

    Amazon Athena is an analytics service that makes it easy to get insights from Amazon S3 based data lakes and other federated sources using open standards like Apache Iceberg and other open table formats. Athena is serverless, so there is no infrastructure to set up or manage as the service scales automatically for any arbitrary large datasets and complex query. Creating a simple, rich and performant experience for customers requires solving challenging engineering problems.

    Athena is growing, and we are looking for a Software Development Manager who can lead key initiatives in Athena's Control Plane team for admission control and advanced workload management, while scaling up the team and the product. We have big technical challenges ahead of us that will grow the service and we need a leader who is passionate, technical and wants to take on a core control plane charter. You will bring you experience of building, managing, focusing, and mentoring engineering teams to deliver fast results.

    You will continue to grow your leadership skills in this role as you:

    Collaborate with some of the strongest technical leadership in the industry

    Actively participate in hiring talented people

    Actively develop the careers of the individuals on your team

    Work directly with senior and principal engineers to define the architectural roadmap

    Oversee the design process, implementation schedule, and delivery to customers in a fast-paced environment

    Infuse AI into every aspect of development and operations

    Bring a deep understanding of software development methodologies to the team

    Manage a service with high availability, and continue to learn and develop the skills needed to lead a service team with the high operational excellence bar expected by AWS

    Contribute to Amazon"s intellectual property through patents and/or external publications

    Responsibilities:

    • Translate functional and technical requirements into detailed architecture, design and extensible code
    • Technically lead a team of smart engineers on complex projects
    • Be an advocate of industry best-practices to produce reliable, fault-torrent and dependable code
    • Code and test complex system modules; develop and leverage frameworks to be effective and efficient
    • Participate in architecture, design and code reviews to maintain our high development standards
    • Own system architecture, scalability, reliability, and performance
    • Collaborate and influence other teams to deliver and operate large scale, distributed services in the cloud
