The Amazon Robotics Autonomous Mobility team develops software that powers Proteus, Amazon Robotics' first fully-autonomous mobile warehouse robot. We are growing and seek a talented, enthusiastic, and motivated SDM to head our Autonomous Routing and Coordination (ARC) team in North Reading, MA. You will lead a team of top-notch scientists and engineers developing state-of-the-art software and algorithms for multi-robot route planning and coordination. The systems you build will enable fleets of 1000s of AMRs to safely, reliably and efficiently navigate through dynamic environments in the presence of humans and other vehicles. The successful candidate will be a collaborative, hands-on manager with a track record of leading science and engineering teams to build high-performance, scalable and reliable systems that solve real-world problems. Experience in areas such as autonomous navigation, motion planning, multi-agent planning and coordination, control systems, and simulation is strongly desired.

Key job responsibilities

  • Define and execute a research & development roadmap for the autonomous routing and coordination team that appropriately balances near-term incremental improvements with long-term vision
  • Mentor and grow a team of talented, motivated applied scientists and software engineers
  • Establish and drive operational excellence best practices to ensure the team consistently produces and maintains high quality software.
  • Work with Product Management to define current and future AMR use-cases and align them with the team's R&D efforts
  • Collaborate with partner tech teams in AR's autonomous mobility program to align priorities, develop a cohesive system architecture, and identify cross-functional opportunities for improvement (e.g. improved performance, reduced complexity)
