    Description

Would you like to innovate on the most visible and persistent experience on Amazon"s websites and apps, one that reaches every customer who visits and supports partner teams across the company? Would you like to build low latency, highly resilient distributed systems at scale, and deliver world class customer experiences across every device? If so, the Navigation Experiences (NavX) team has an opportunity for you.

NavX serves tens of thousands of transactions per second and billions of views per day. Our footprint is large and visible, and the systems behind it have to be fast, reliable, and easy for partners to build on.

    The role

As a full stack Software Development Engineer on NavX, you will design, build, and operate both the backend services and the customer facing experiences that make up navigation across Amazon. You will own features and components end to end, from data model and service to the rendered experience on app, mobile web, and desktop. You will ship code daily through continuous deployment pipelines in an agile environment, and you will optimize our systems for scale, latency, and resilience.

You will work closely with other engineers, product managers, and partner teams, and you will take technical ambiguity and turn it into concrete, well scoped designs. You will raise the engineering bar on the team through code reviews, operational excellence, and mentoring, and you will keep looking around the corner for ways to improve the architecture and the customer experience.

    What you will work on

We own navigation across all devices on the Amazon retail experience. That includes browsing destinations in the Hamburger menu, shopping within Store Modes, finding account and personalized content in the You Tab, and discovering strategic programs through the Strategic Subnav and Discovery Bar. We own the navigation chrome on all rendering platforms, along with the platform aspects of its flyouts and tooltips. To support builders across Amazon, we also own Nav Config Studio, which lets partner teams specify navigation links and hierarchies through our experiences.

Our mission is to serve as an indispensable guide that helps customers find what they need, whenever and wherever they need it, and to get out of the way when they do not need our help. Our vision is a tailored navigation experience that brings forward the most important and relevant information for a customer at any stage of their shopping journey.

    Key job responsibilities

You have strong technical design, problem solving, and communication skills, and you are comfortable working with technical and non technical stakeholders. You have experience building and operating production cloud services, and you understand how to design for scalability, performance, and reliability. You are a full stack engineer who is as comfortable in a service and data layer as in the client code that renders a customer experience. You want to learn new skills and take on problems that have not been solved before, and you work backwards from the customer.

    About the team

We are a diverse, intellectually curious team that likes to have fun and accomplish big things. We care about engineering excellence, operational ownership, and a customer experience we are proud of.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
