    Description

Amazon is seeking exceptional talent to help develop the next generation of advanced robotics systems that will transform automation at Amazon"s scale. We"re building revolutionary robotic systems that combine cutting-edge AI, sophisticated control systems, and advanced mechanical design to create adaptable automation solutions capable of working safely alongside humans in dynamic environments. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of robotics and automation at an unprecedented scale, working with world-class teams pushing the boundaries of what"s possible in robotic dexterous manipulation, locomotion, and human-robot interaction. This role presents an opportunity to shape the future of robotics through innovative applications of the latest software and AI tools for robots.

At Amazon we leverage advanced robotics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to solve complex operational challenges at an unprecedented scale. Our fleet of robots operates across hundreds of facilities worldwide, working in sophisticated coordination to fulfill our mission of customer excellence.

We are building the brains of our next-generation robots - a stack that:

    • Enables deployment of robots at Amazon scale
    • Enables unprecedented generalization across diverse tasks
    • Seamlessly integrates with large models and optimal control techniques
    • Integrates with human-safe safety solutions

As a Software Development Engineer on our on-robot software team, you will partner closely with applied scientists and engineers working on perception, localization and mapping (SLAM), and navigation to integrate their models and algorithms into the robot"s onboard software, make them run in real time on embedded GPUs, and measurably improve their performance on real robot data. You will work at the boundary between science and engineering: turning research prototypes into fast, reliable, and observable on-robot components, and building the evaluation loops that show whether a change actually made the robot better.

Join us in building the next generation of intelligent robotics systems that will transform the future of automation and human-robot collaboration.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Partner with perception, SLAM, and navigation scientists and engineers to integrate their models and algorithms (e.g., stereo depth, object detection and segmentation, visual-inertial odometry, mapping, and localization) into the on-robot software stack
    • Optimize deep learning models and computer vision pipelines for real-time inference on embedded GPUs, using techniques such as quantization, pruning, graph optimization, and inference-engine tuning
    • Profile and reduce end-to-end perception latency, throughput, and memory use from sensor input to model output, including when multiple models share the same GPU
    • Build efficient multi-camera and multi-sensor data paths, including zero-copy and hardware-accelerated pre- and post-processing, together with sensor-interface and model-serving owners
    • Build and own evaluation datasets, metrics, and regression gates (precision, recall, accuracy, latency) across offline, simulation, and hardware-in-the-loop testing, and use them with science partners to drive measurable accuracy improvements
    • Make perception components production-ready with versioning, configuration, health monitoring, and telemetry, and debug failures observed on real robots
    • Write design documents and experiment reports that clearly communicate tradeoffs, results, and limitations to science, engineering, and program stakeholders

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
