    Description

AWS Security SecDevOps is a team of software development engineers responsible for shaping the future of internal security tooling within AWS Security. We build technologies at scale to help keep AWS and our customers secure. As a software development engineer on this team, you will use modern technologies and AWS services to empower AWS security response engineers to be more productive and improve AWS builder experience. Our team tackles challenging internal development efforts within AWS Security requiring scale, availability, and integration with numerous other services and tools. To delight our customers we incorporate real-time collaboration features and use purpose-built components and dependencies, while maintaining close contact with our customers throughout the development process.

You are a software developer who likes to deliver software solutions that solve business problems and delight your customers with efficiency and productivity gains. You have development experience with technologies like AWS, Java, TypeScript, React, Python, and SQL, though you don"t need experience with all of those to start. You might be a front end developer, a back end developer, or a full stack engineer. If you have some background in security that is helpful, but not required.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Design and deliver software features across the full development lifecycle, from working backwards with customers through implementation, testing, deployment, and operations, for security response systems.
    • Participate actively in code reviews, providing meaningful feedback to teammates and coaching others on producing high-quality, maintainable code.
    • Identify and resolve root causes of operational issues, ensuring the software you support remains reliable and that permanent fixes replace short-term workarounds.
    • Collaborate with customers, other technical teams, and stakeholders to collect requirements, understand business and security needs, and translate those into clear technical solutions.
    • Document the software you work on, how it is constructed and operated, and how it fits into the broader security ecosystem, and train new team members on these points.

    A day in the life

You review the operational health of detection and response systems, checking metrics and addressing any service issues. You design and implement features across front end, back end and data warehousing. You participate in design discussions and code reviews with your teammates, and regularly meet with security response engineers and AWS builders to understand their pain points so you can build the right solutions. You also spend time mentoring teammates and writing documentation that helps others ramp up quickly.

So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
