    Description

With roughly seven out of eight enterprise workloads still running on-premises or on mainframe, the opportunity to help the world"s largest organizations move to the cloud is enormous. AWS Transform is building a platform that combines AI-driven automation with deep infrastructure and software engineering to analyze, plan, and execute large-scale application migrations. As a Software Development Engineer on this team, you will work across the full stack, from designing the distributed systems and services that power migration workflows to building the intelligent agents that reason about complex legacy environments.

You will own the design and delivery of features and components, from understanding customer needs through implementation, testing, and production operations. You will work with senior engineers on system design, write high-quality, well-tested code, and help operate the services you build. Your work will directly shape how enterprises move their most critical workloads to AWS. You will collaborate closely with senior engineers, product managers, and customer-facing teams to make sure what you build turns into real customer outcomes. If you are excited about solving hard, high-impact problems with strong engineering fundamentals and applied AI skills, we would love to hear from you.

    Key job responsibilities

Design, build, and operate distributed services and AI-powered agents that analyze legacy codebases, plan migration strategies, and execute transformations end to end.

Drive the end-to-end design of the features you own, making trade-offs across scalability, performance, and security, and communicate across teams to influence architectural decisions on shared interfaces and infrastructure.

Write well-documented, production-quality code that sets an example for others, and make sure solutions are testable and easy for others to extend.

Play a key technical role on the team in aligning engineering work with customer needs, turning requirements into product features and delivering them incrementally.

Mentor teammates through design and code reviews, foster engineering best practices, and take part in interviewing and recruiting.

    A day in the life

Your morning might start with a design review where you present your approach for a new service component that automates a migration step previously done by hand. After working through the details with a senior engineer, you shift to writing and reviewing code, working on infrastructure plumbing one hour and refining an agent"s decision logic the next. In the afternoon you meet with your product manager and a customer-facing teammate to go over feedback from an enterprise customer pilot and turn it into improvements for your feature. You wrap up by updating operational dashboards and tuning alerts for a service you helped launch.

    About the team

AWS Transform sits within the Agentic AI organization at Amazon Web Services and is focused on building the next generation of autonomous migration services. The team partners closely with go-to-market, professional services, and enterprise customers to turn complex modernization challenges into repeatable, well-engineered solutions that blend systems infrastructure with applied AI.

We are at an early and exciting stage of product development, which means your contributions will directly shape the platform"s architecture and roadmap. We value curiosity, collaboration, and a willingness to experiment, and we are committed to building an inclusive environment where every team member can do their best work.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
