    Schwab Technology Services enables the future of how clients manage their money by delivering innovative, secure, and reliable technology solutions that support critical broker-dealer operations.

    This position will be part of the Settlements Technology organization. Our team builds and supports business-critical applications that enable the accurate and timely processing of securities transactions across Schwab''s broker-dealer platforms. These platforms support high-volume transaction processing, operational workflows, risk controls, and enterprise integrations that are essential to delivering a reliable client experience.

    As a Software Developer, you will work within an Agile delivery team to design, develop, test, implement, and support distributed software solutions for settlement processing. You will partner with product owners, business stakeholders, architects, quality engineers, operations teams, and production support teams to deliver secure, scalable, resilient, observable, and maintainable applications.

    This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who embraces AI-assisted software engineering practices and enjoys solving complex technical problems, improving platform reliability, modernizing application capabilities, and delivering business-critical solutions. You will use AI-enabled development tools to accelerate delivery and improve quality while maintaining accountability for code accuracy, testing, security, performance, and production readiness.

    • Strong understanding of Agile software development methodologies and a commitment to designing, developing, testing, implementing, and supporting high-quality software solutions.
    • Ability to translate business and technical requirements into maintainable software designs, services, integrations, automated tests, and clear technical documentation.
    • Experience developing secure, scalable, resilient, observable, and supportable distributed applications using sound engineering principles and modern development practices.
    • Commitment to engineering excellence through code reviews, automated testing, secure coding, operational stability, observability, and continuous improvement.
    • Ability to troubleshoot complex application and integration issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement sustainable solutions.
    • Strong ownership and accountability for delivered solutions throughout the software lifecycle, including production support.
    • Strong analytical, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively across technology, product, business, and operations teams and learn new technologies and domain concepts quickly.

    Required Qualifications

    • 5+ years of professional software development experience building and supporting enterprise applications, including 5+ years of hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, RESTful services, microservices, and distributed application architectures.
    • Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
    • Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar technologies for code generation, test creation, troubleshooting, documentation, and development acceleration while maintaining ownership of code quality, accuracy, security, and performance.
    • Experience designing and delivering secure, scalable, resilient, and high-performing solutions for highly available, high-volume transaction processing systems using object-oriented principles, software design patterns, event-driven architectures, enterprise integration patterns, and large-scale distributed systems.
    • Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, SQL development, data modeling, persistence frameworks, and application integration solutions.
    • Experience with messaging and event-driven technologies such as Kafka, IBM MQ, RabbitMQ, or similar platforms.
    • Experience implementing unit, integration, functional, and end-to-end testing, along with source control, CI/CD pipelines, build automation, and DevSecOps practices across the software development lifecycle.
    • Experience working in Agile delivery teams and supporting all phases of software delivery, including requirements analysis, development, testing, implementation, production support, incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
    • Experience monitoring, supporting, and improving production applications in Linux or Unix environments using observability and monitoring platforms such as Splunk, Dynatrace, Grafana, AppDynamics, or similar tools.
    • Strong analytical, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to communicate risks, dependencies, and blockers and to quickly learn new technologies, business processes, and domain concepts.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience supporting settlement processing, securities processing, custody operations, reconciliations, post-trade workflows, or other broker-dealer platforms.
    • Understanding of securities processing lifecycles, settlement business processes, operational controls, risk management practices, and regulatory requirements.
    • Experience developing and supporting batch-processing solutions using Spring Batch, Control-M, or similar enterprise scheduling technologies.
    • Experience modernizing, integrating with, or supporting legacy platforms, including mainframe technologies such as COBOL, JCL, DB2, Datacom, or CICS.
    • Experience with ISO financial messaging standards and securities transaction processing.
    • Experience developing or supporting solutions on cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, or Microsoft Azure.
    • Familiarity with authentication and authorization frameworks such as OAuth 2.0, SAML, JWT, or similar technologies.
    • Experience working in highly regulated environments such as financial services.
