Position Summary:
The Social Media & Community Manager oversees the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s organic social media platforms, using compelling multimedia storytelling and audience engagement to strengthen the organization’s reputation, deepen connections in the community, and demonstrate the Trust’s impact as a leader in Downtown Pittsburgh. The role manages social media content strategy in coordination with the Strategic Communications department including planning and publishing, creator and influencer relationship management, audience interaction, comment moderation, and other initiatives that support the Trust’s visibility and reputation.
The position also manages the Trust’s daily social presence through frequent photography and videography, fast-turn editing and posting, live event coverage, channel-specific copywriting, content calendar management, and responses to guest inquiries. Content may range from informal, in-the-moment coverage to professionally produced photography and video. The Social Media & Community Manager also uses business intelligence tools to analyze performance, report on key metrics, and inform future content strategy.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, multimedia, advertising, digital marketing, or related technical field preferred.
Work Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of professional experience in social media management, communications, multimedia or related fields. Past photography, videography, and editing experience is required.
Supervisory Experience: Prior experience managing others is not required.
Technical skills: Strong photography, videography, and editing skills are required. Channel-specific copywriting experience is preferred. Strong time and project management capability is essential with an ability to prioritize and reprioritize in a fast-paced team environment.

Candidates should possess strong written and oral communication skills, be adept at tailoring messages for target audiences, and have outstanding attention to detail.
Essential Functions:
Main job responsibilities:
Supervisory responsibility: This position does not have any supervisory responsibility but may oversee interns or freelancers who work on specific department projects.
Budgetary responsibility: This position oversees budgets related to occasional contracted support of photography, videography or content creator projects.
Decision-making responsibility: This position exercises day-to-day discretion regarding management of the Trust’s outbound social media content, subject to the general oversight of the Director of Communications.
Strategic responsibility: This position oversees the Trust’s social media strategy, ensuring that guests receive relevant and timely communications at an appropriate frequency. Additionally, the position ensures that outbound communications meet Trust branding expectations. All strategy decisions are subject to the oversight of the Director of Communications.
Reporting requirements: This position’s reporting duties are primarily internal, aimed at fostering business growth. On occasion, external reporting to event partners may be required.
Travel requirements: Limited travel (less than 5%) is required for this position.
Physical demands: This position involves mainly office work – occasional lifting up to 20-30 lbs. may be required. The individual should be able to sit and/or view a computer screen for extended periods of time. When capturing photographic or video content of events or performances, walking or standing for extended periods of time may be required.
Salary: Starting at $48,000
