Job Description:
Position Title: Behavior Intervention Specialist (school year position)
Program: Montessori
General Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Principal and the School Coordinator, the Behavior Intervention Specialist supervises, manages and intervenes with students who are demonstrating challenging behavior within the school setting. Promotes a positive learning environment for all students. Maintains database and generates regular reports on behavioral interventions and outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Follows prescribed behavioral intervention plans (BIPs) for students.
Utilizes programs behavioral management system and is ready to respond to and manage varying levels of maladaptive student behavior (mild, escalation, crisis stages). Interventions may include but are not limited to the following: redirecting, restating expectations, collaborative problem solving, planned ignoring, therapeutic walk or cool-down time, securing the environment, separating students, escort or protective hold.
Supervises individuals or small groups of students who cannot be maintained within the classroom and have been placed in alternative learning settings within the school program due to their disruptive, non-compliant or high risk behaviors.
Assists students with completing assigned class work and make-up work.
Monitors students during meal times, class changes, in hallways and outside the building as needed.
Performs routine security checks of students upon arrival at school or upon students return to program after AWOL from building.
Collects and enters into ED HUB daily behavioral data for each student served.
Keeps track of restraints and seclusions.
During early release and Professional development days assist in entering behavior tracking forms into ED HUB.
Attends PPT meetings and works in collaboration with SPED team.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelors degree required.
Requires knowledge of and experience using effective behavior intervention and management strategies with significantly emotionally disturbed adolescents. Must have ability to perform duties in a calm non-threatening manner, with a diverse population of clients and fellow workers.
Job-related certifications including crisis intervention techniques (PMT), CPR/First Aid.
