POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION

The Snow Plow Operator - Temporary position performs semi-skilled to skilled labor involving operation of light and commercial vehicles and machinery in public works snow removal operations. Work is often performed outdoors under severe working conditions.

Operating Hours for this position are around the clock and on an as-needed basis throughout the snow season. Snow season may last from September to May each year and is weather-dependent. It is a mandatory requirement of this position to be on call for emergency snow removal. This is an on-demand snow-removal position only, with no guarantee of minimum hours; on call availability and scheduling will be determined by applicants and their supervisor. Applicants must be able to respond to the Westminster Municipal Service Center located at 6575 W. 88th Ave., Westminster, CO, within 30 to 45 minutes when on call. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to random drug testing and regular driving record checks.

The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate.

  • Operates heavy and light construction equipment, including:

  • Tandems and single axle dump trucks

  • Snow plows

  • Spreaders

  • Front end loader

  • Performs work safely, including:

  • Operating City vehicle

  • Maintaining State of Colorado CDL Class A or Class B

  • Maintaining safe driving record

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance in accordance with the on-call requirements of the position

Incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job, and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the City's discretion.

  • Experience in commercial snow removal operations (municipal experience preferred)
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in municipal snow removal operations
  • Experience in and/or knowledge of City of Westminster streets and/or snow removal operations

Snow Plow Operator III

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED
  • Experience in safe operation of equipment and heavy and light vehicles
  • Experience in commercial snow removal operations (municipal experience preferred)
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in City of Westminster municipal snow removal operations
  • Experience in and/or knowledge of City of Westminster streets and/or snow removal operations

Physical Requirements

This position is physical in nature and requires sufficient physical strength and stamina to:

  • Frequently sit while driving to and from work sites and operating snow removal equipment
  • Frequent light grasp and reaching
  • Constant near/far acuity and hearing to safely perform duties and perform office tasks

WORKING CONDITIONS

Occasionally performs work indoors and constantly inside of a vehicle with frequent exposure to extreme temperatures and weather conditions. On-call duty is also required for emergency snow removal.

Required Materials and Equipment

Heavy and light construction vehicles and equipment including tandem and single axle dump trucks with snow plow and spreader, hand tools, and any other snow removal related vehicles, equipment or tools. Personal protection equipment such as hardhat, steel-toed boots, safety vest, safety glasses, gloves and ear protection. General office equipment including a personal computer, telephone, radio, copier, and fax machine.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Background check including employment references, criminal history, and driving record review
  • If current CDL holder DOT questionnaire (Form 49 CFR part 40 Drug and Alcohol Testing) and required background check will be submitted to previous employer for the past two years
  • Drug screen
  • Must be legally entitled to work in the United States
