PGS Worldwide is seeking an SMT Soldering Technician in Oldsmar, Florida for a one-year onsite contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. This first-shift position will perform advanced surface-mount soldering, rework, inspection, and defect correction on electronic circuit card assemblies in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Required Skills
- 5+ years of soldering experience in an electronics manufacturing environment.
- Strong experience soldering and reworking surface-mount components.
- Experience using a microscope for component placement, soldering, inspection, and touch-up.
- Ability to identify and repair solder defects, including insufficient solder, solder bridges, misaligned components, tombstoning, billboarded components, and poor wetting.
- Experience using rework equipment such as hot-air pencils, hot plates, and BGA removal systems.
- Experience using Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) equipment.
- Ability to distinguish actual AOI defects from false calls.
- Experience reviewing circuit boards under X-ray to identify solder defects on bottom-terminated components.
- Ability to read work instructions and identify standard SMT components.
- IPC-A-610 certification required; active or expired accepted.
- IPC J-STD-001 certification required; active or expired accepted.
- Ability to sit for extended periods and maintain focus on detailed, repetitive work.
- Ability to work overtime as required.
- Ability to successfully complete the required medical examination.
Preferred Skills
- Experience installing, soldering, and securing jumper wires on redesigned circuit boards.
- BGA rework experience using ERSA or similar equipment.
- Experience performing high-complexity circuit-card rework and repair.
What You’ll Do
- Manually align surface-mount components before soldering.
- Perform soldering, rework, touch-up, and repair of SMT components.
- Use microscopes to verify component placement, orientation, and workmanship.
- Perform post-reflow inspection and solder touch-up.
- Identify and correct solder shorts, bridges, voids, insufficient solder, misalignment, and other workmanship defects.
- Operate AOI equipment to identify potential solder and component defects.
- Use X-ray inspection to evaluate solder joints on bottom-terminated components.
- Operate hot-air, hot-plate, BGA removal, and other electronic rework equipment.
- Support jumper-wire installation and board modifications when required.
- Maintain high workmanship standards while meeting production schedules.
Work Schedule / Shift
- Full-time onsite in Oldsmar, Florida.
- 1st Shift: Monday–Thursday, 5:00 AM–3:30 PM ET.
- Overtime may be required.
Pay
- $20.00–$25.00 per hour.
- Overtime eligible after 40 hours.
