Position Summary
We are seeking a SMT Operator I with strong mechanical ability, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to perform assembly and machine operation tasks requiring fine motor skills and precision.
While previous SMT experience is preferred, We are also open to candidates with CNC Operator or other precision manufacturing experience who have strong mechanical aptitude and are interested in learning electronics manufacturing.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable operating machinery, following detailed work instructions, working with precision components, troubleshooting basic machine issues, and maintaining consistent quality in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
This position has three levels that can be attained, with each level having different performance expectations. Candidates entering at the Operator I level will receive training and close supervision while they develop the knowledge and skills necessary to independently perform the essential duties of the position.
The first three months are considered an evaluation and training period, during which the employee's progress and performance will be assessed.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Set up and tear down the SMT line and associated machinery.
- Operate SMT machines, printers, ovens, and related production equipment.
- Review and interpret IPC standards, internal manufacturing documents, and customer-supplied documentation.
- Perform machine edits and basic in-process troubleshooting.
- Monitor equipment and production processes to ensure products meet specifications.
- Archive machine-generated reports and maintain required production documentation.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on SMT equipment.
- Produce products to required IPC standards.
- Perform repetitive production tasks with speed, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Inspect work and identify quality issues or process problems.
- Follow established procedures and work instructions.
- Participate in and adhere to all safety policies and practices.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Work effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- 1?2 years of SMT operation and maintenance experience preferred.
- CNC Operator or other precision machine-operation experience will be considered.
- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn and operate specialized production equipment.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, engineering drawings, manufacturing documents, and short correspondence.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with precision components.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks with speed and accuracy.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic equipment or process issues.
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Strong drive and motivation to learn and succeed.
- Initiative to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Ability to prioritize and plan work activities efficiently.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office and machine applications.
- Availability to work the assigned shift.
Electronics Experience
Electronics manufacturing experience is a plus, including:
- SMT operation
- PCB assembly
- Electronics assembly
- Soldering
- ESD-controlled environments
- Reading electronic or manufacturing documentation
- IPC standards
