SME Network Administrator

Overview: GovCIO is currently hiring a highly experienced Network Administrator SME to serve as the technical authority for secure network infrastructure supporting a mission-critical U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) program. Support ongoing Risk Management Framework (RMF) activities by preparing, reviewing, and updating critical accreditation artifacts such as System Security Plans (SSPs), POA&Ms, and eMASS entries.

Overview:

GovCIO is currently hiring a highly experienced Network Administrator SME to serve as the technical authority for secure network infrastructure supporting a mission-critical U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) program. This position is located in Alexandria, VA and will be a hybrid position. This position focuses on administering, maintaining, and hardening high-security systems to ensure USCG operational readiness and continuous compliance with federal standards.

Responsibilities:

The Network Administrator SME (TSB) will handle the technical administration and security enforcement of classified systems. Core responsibilities include:

• Administer and maintain enterprise USCG SIPRNet network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, TACLANEs, and encryption devices, ensuring compliance with DoD, DHS, and DISA security standards.
• Implement and enforce robust security configurations and hardening protocols across all network devices, servers, and endpoints in strict accordance with STIGs and RMF requirements.
• Conduct routine vulnerability scans using tools like ACAS and SCAP, analyze findings, and remediate security issues to successfully maintain Coast Guard system accreditation.
• Develop and maintain detailed network documentation, including comprehensive architecture diagrams, configuration baselines, and rigorous change control records.
• Support ongoing Risk Management Framework (RMF) activities by preparing, reviewing, and updating critical accreditation artifacts such as System Security Plans (SSPs), POA&Ms, and eMASS entries.
• Continuously monitor system performance and security alerts; investigate and troubleshoot complex connectivity, authentication, and configuration issues within classified environments.
• Collaborate closely with cybersecurity teams, systems engineers, and program leadership to directly align network resources with evolving USCG mission requirements.
• Participate actively in technical reviews and change control boards (CCB), providing expert recommendations on design modifications and security posture improvements to government leadership.
• Stay current with emerging engineering technologies, DoD/DHS cybersecurity mandates, and industry best practices for classified network operations.

Qualifications:

High School with 10+ years (or commensurate experience)

Required Skills & Experience

 

• Certifications: DoD 8570 IAT Level II or higher (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+)
• Minimum 5 years of experience with Cisco routers (39xx, 4xxxx, 8K), switches (29xx, 38xx, 9K), and firewalls (55xx and above).
• 3 years of active experience with TACLANEs (KG 175D, F, N, and G) and GEM management console at a configuration and engineering build level.

Clearance Level: Must have an active Secret clearance  

 

Preferred Skills & Experience

 

• Experience supporting U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) or Department of Homeland Security (DHS) programs, with an understanding of Coast Guard culture and IT operational environments.
• Experience with these software and technology platforms: Cisco ISE, DoD Zero Trust implementation, F5, Infoblox DNS and Palo Alto firewalls.
• Experience working directly with government leadership or senior military/Coast Guard officials - GDMS TACLANE school attendance.
• Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, and time management skills.

Posted Salary Range: USD $115,000.00 - USD $130,000.00 /Yr.
