FLSA Position Class: Full-time, Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Summary

This position is responsible for semi-skilled work in a variety of janitorial, landscaping, and repair assignments involving the use of specialized tools and equipment within the city's water and wastewater treatment divisions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

NOTE: Employee may be required to respond to a disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Statesville and meet the needs of the organization, which may result in the assignment of other duties and take precedence over duties described in this job description. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.

  • Performs a variety of manual work in connection with the landscaping, light maintenance, and janitorial needs within the water and wastewater treatment divisions.
  • Operates front end deck mowers, zero turn mowers, turf tractors, and other power equipment.
  • Mows areas around the facility, tank sites, pump stations, and other appurtenances of water or wastewater plants.
  • Assists operations and maintenance teams as needed for repairs and operations of departmental duties.
  • Performs ground and building maintenance as well as landscaping duties on a regular basis.
  • Performs janitorial work and general cleaning on a frequent basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One (1) year of experience in janitorial, landscaping, and light maintenance duties.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license, or any valid driver's license with ability to obtain a North Carolina driver's license within 60 days of establishing a permanent residence in North Carolina.

  • Thorough knowledge of janitorial and landscaping tasks.
  • Thorough knowledge in use of common and specialized hand and power tools required for work.
  • Thorough knowledge of the safe use, operation, and preventive maintenance of mechanical equipment required in the work.
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions.
  • Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly, concisely, and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, other departments, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Ability to interact with the public in a professional manner.

Job Related Physical Requirements

This position involves heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Working Conditions
