We're looking for an experienced Site Safety Specialist to join our team, beginning on a major Power Generation project in Madras, Oregon. After project completion, you'll have opportunities to support work across multiple JR Merit divisions, giving you exposure to some of the region's most challenging and rewarding industrial construction projects.

What You'll Do

As a Site Safety Specialist, you'll support the implementation and continuous improvement of JR Merit's Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs. You'll partner with field and project teams to identify hazards, promote safe work practices, and ensure compliance with applicable safety standards and regulations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct field safety observations, inspections, audits, and hazard assessments
  • Develop and deliver orientations, toolbox talks, and safety training
  • Support Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and regulatory compliance
  • Participate in incident investigations and corrective actions
  • Maintain required safety documentation and reporting
  • Partner with project teams, subcontractors, and leadership to continuously improve safety performance
  • Support workers' compensation, return-to-work coordination, and other safety administration as needed

What We're Looking For

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in construction health and safety.
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related science or equivalent years of experience.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA CFR 1926 standards and state construction safety regulations.
  • First Aid/CPR & OSHA 30 certifications.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time to provide onsite safety support, including conducting jobsite inspections, delivering training, and other related activities.
  • Ability to support Project schedules based on client and operational needs and may include extended workweeks, nights, weekends, or rotational schedules.
  • Valid Driver's license and clean driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, and Access).
  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification and/or HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) certification
  • Experience in heavy industrial construction, hydropower, manufacturing, and/or pulp and paper.
  • Commitment to high safety and environmental standards.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work effectively in a highly interactive team environment.

Work Environment & Travel

This position begins on a major Power Generation project in Madras, Oregon. As projects evolve, you'll have opportunities to support work across JR Merit's Power Generation, Industrial, Manufacturing, Infrastructure, and Specialty divisions throughout the Western United States.

  • Travel assignments may include company-provided travel incentives and per diem benefits in accordance with JR Merit policy.
  • Project schedules vary based on client and operational needs and may include extended workweeks, nights, weekends, or rotational schedules.
  • As a salaried-exempt employee, compensation may be adjusted to reflect project assignments and schedules. Certain project assignments offer the opportunity to earn approximately 25% to 50% above base salary through schedule-based compensation programs in accordance with JR Merit's Per Diem Policy.
  • Work is performed on active industrial and construction sites and requires the ability to wear PPE and safely navigate uneven terrain, stairs, and ladders.
  • Some projects require additional customer-specific training or security clearances.

JR Merit offers a competitive compensation and benefits package designed to support employees and their families:

Base Salary: $90,000 - $105,000

In addition to base salary, employees may be eligible for travel-related incentives, per diem benefits for qualifying assignments, and enhanced earnings opportunities tied to project schedules. Depending on project assignment and work schedule, the Site Safety Specialist may have the opportunity to earn approximately 25% to 50% above their annual base salary.
