Position Summary PBI Steel Construction is seeking an experienced and highly qualified Site Safety Manager to lead safety operations on structural steel erection construction project based in Louisiana. Reporting directly to the Director of Safety, this position is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive safety programs that protect employees, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote a culture of safety excellence. The Site Safety Manager serves as the primary safety leader on assigned projects and works closely with the Director of Safety, Project Management, Field supervision, Subcontractors, Clients, and Employees to identify hazards, reduce risk, prevent injuries, and ensure all work is performed safely and efficiently.

Required Certifications

CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) OSHA 500 - Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for Construction OSHA 510 - Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry Current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Safety Program Leadership

Create, implement, and maintain workplace health and safety plans, programs, policies, and procedures. Lead all project safety initiatives and promote a proactive safety culture. Support the Director of Safety in implementing corporate safety objectives and continuous improvement initiatives. Ensure compliance with company policies, client requirements, and regulatory standards.

Risk Assessment & Regulatory Compliance

Evaluate health and safety practices, procedures, and operations to identify hazards and assess risk. Conduct routine jobsite inspections, audits, and safety observations. Ensure compliance with:

OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Construction Standards OSHA Subpart R - Steel Erection OSHA Subpart M - Fall Protection OSHA Subpart CC - Cranes and Derricks Company Safety Policies Client Safety Requirements

Develop and implement corrective actions to eliminate workplace hazards and reduce risk exposure.

Safety Training & Employee Development

Conduct accident prevention training and health and safety training programs. Facilitate new hire orientations, toolbox talks, safety stand-downs, and regulatory compliance training. Coach and mentor supervisors, foremen, and employees on safe work practices. Promote employee engagement in safety initiatives and hazard recognition programs.

Equipment & Site Inspections

Inspect tools, equipment, vehicles, machinery, and jobsite operations for unsafe conditions. Monitor field operations to ensure compliance with established safety procedures. Verify required inspections are completed and documented. Coordinate corrective actions for identified deficiencies.

Employee Safety Compliance

Monitor employee conformity with safety regulations, company policies, and PPE requirements. Work with project leadership to address unsafe behaviors and conditions. Reinforce accountability through coaching, training, and positive leadership.

Incident Investigation & Prevention

Investigate accidents, injuries, near misses, property damage incidents, and safety concerns. Conduct root cause analyses to determine contributing factors. Develop and implement corrective and preventive measures to prevent recurrence. Maintain detailed investigation reports and documentation. Analyze trends and recommend continuous improvement opportunities.

Workers Compensation Administration

Assist in the management of Workers Compensation claims resulting from workplace injuries. Ensure timely reporting and documentation of incidents and injuries. Coordinate with medical providers, insurance carriers, Human Resources, and project management regarding claims management. Support return-to-work and transitional duty programs. Assist in reducing claim frequency and severity through proactive injury prevention efforts.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement

Prepare weekly and monthly safety performance reports. Maintain OSHA logs and regulatory documentation. Track leading and lagging safety indicators. Suggest solutions, improvements, and preventive measures for identified safety concerns. Participate in project meetings and provide safety updates to project leadership and clients.

Experience

Minimum 7 years of construction safety experience. Minimum 5 years of safety experience in structural steel construction. Extensive experience in:

Structural Steel Erection Steel Fabrication Industrial Construction Commercial Construction Crane and Rigging Operations Fall Protection Programs High-Risk Construction Activities

Knowledge & Skills

Expert knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards (29 CFR 1926). Extensive knowledge of OSHA Subpart R - Steel Erection. Strong understanding of accident investigation and root cause analysis techniques. Knowledge of Workers Compensation claims management and return-to-work programs. Excellent leadership, communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to influence and engage employees at all organizational levels. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software. Strong organizational, reporting, and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field. CSP (Certified Safety Professional). ASP (Associate Safety Professional). STS-C (Safety Trained Supervisor Construction). CSHO (Certified Safety and Health Official). EM 385-1-1 Experience.

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work in active construction environments. Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, stairs, and structural steel. Ability to work at heights and in varying weather conditions. Ability to walk construction sites for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Ability to travel to assigned project locations throughout Louisiana and Texas.
