Simulation Technology Specialist

40 hours per week / 1st shift

Summary:

Provides technical and operational support for simulation-based education and training including high-fidelity manikins, task trainers, audiovisual systems, wet labs, and other simulation equipment. Responsibilities include rearranging spaces and manikins for different course material, operating manikins, voice acting and/or acting as a standardized patient, recreating different wounds/injuries with moulage (medical makeup), and creating/prototyping new ideas for props/anatomical models/trainers. This position works collaboratively with faculty, healthcare professionals, and learners to ensure safe, realistic, and effective simulation experiences. The department works across Summa locations but is mainly based out of Akron City Hospital. The role is best suited for an individual who enjoys learning new things and having a varied day-to-day experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Formal Education Required:

a. Associates degree and/or equivalent degree

  1. Experience & Training Required:

a. Required:

i. Ability to obtain American Heart Association Certifications must obtain within 6 months of hire

ii. Ability to obtain Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) within 12 months of qualifying degree or 36 months without qualifying degree

b. Preferred

i. Experience in simulation

ii. Experience in a medical setting

iii. Computer/electronics knowledge

iv. Experience with 3D print systems

v. Experience with acting/voice acting

vi. Experience in art, sculpture, or other creative disciplines

  1. Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:

a. Strong communication, organization, attention to detail, and customer-service skills

b. Ability to work well both individually and within a team environment

c. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to respond quickly to technical issues during live simulation events

d. Strong technical, creative, communication, and problem-solving skills

  1. Level of Physical Demands:

Medium/Moderate

  • Lifting/carrying: Regularly lift, carry, push, pull, and reposition adult-sized manikins and simulation equipment weighing between 50-75 lbs., with some items requiring two person lifting.
  • Frequency: Depending on the events scheduled, may move and reposition manikins and equipment multiple times throughout the workday.

The salary range on this job posting/advertising is base salary exclusive of any bonuses or differentials. Many factors, such as years of relevant experience and geographical location are considered when determining the starting rate of pay.
