The Sign Language Interpreter is assigned as part of the support services for hearing impaired students and teachers in mainstream classes at Sonny Callahan School.
The duties include but are not limited to:
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a high school graduate from a regionally accredited school or have GED equivalent.
Must have a permit issued by the Alabama Board of Interpreters and Transliterators which includes
a passing score on a written test (JSU) and a passing score on the Performance Test: MS QA Level 3, FL QA Level 3 or EIPA Level 3.0 or higher or a license issued by the Alabama Board of Interpreters and Transliterators which includes RID Certification (CI, CT, NIC), EIPA Level 4.0 or higher), passing score on RID written exam, and a current RID Membership OR Must possess National Certification in sign language.
Must complete all required training within six (6) months of employment.
Duty Days 187
Salary Range: From/To Beginning pay - $46,187.00

Applicants selected for classified positions must undergo (or have undergone) an ABI/FBI criminal history background check (fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department) and be declared suitable and fit to teach under state law. Applicants selected must also pass a drug-screening test via forms provided by Human Resources during the selection process.
