As a middle school-based Sign Language Interpreter in Illinois, your days will include: - Provide sign language interpreting services for a middle school student throughout the school day.
- Facilitate clear communication between the student, teachers, staff, and peers using appropriate sign language interpreting techniques.
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, school activities, and other educational content to support full student access and participation.
- Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, and school staff to support the student’s communication and educational needs.
- Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and appropriate interpreting standards within the school environment.
- Support the student across classroom and school settings while promoting communication access and independence.
- Follow school procedures and applicable professional standards for educational interpreting.
Job Details - Position: Contract school-based Sign Language Interpreter
- Hours: 35 hours per week
- Caseload: Middle school student
- Start/End Date: ASAP through end of school year (EOSY)
- Interview: Virtual
- Work Setting: In-person
Successful Candidates Possess - ISBE Approval or ISHHC, or higher credentials such as a Community License or 3.5+ EIPA score
- PEL is not required
- Experience in an educational or school setting (preferred)
- The ability to work in the U.S. without a sponsor
