Position Overview

Birch Agency is seeking a skilled and dedicated Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) to support students who are deaf or hard of hearing in a school-based setting in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

This is an excellent opportunity for an interpreter who is passionate about ensuring students have full access to classroom instruction, school activities, and educational services. The ideal candidate will be fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and committed to creating an inclusive educational environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation for students during classroom instruction, school activities, meetings, and other educational settings.

• Interpret lectures, discussions, classroom activities, assemblies, and school-related events.

• Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, peers, administrators, and support staff.

• Adapt interpretation methods to meet individual students' communication needs and learning styles.

• Support student participation in academic, extracurricular, and social activities.

• Prepare and review instructional content to ensure accurate and effective interpretation.

• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers to support student success.

• Participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.

• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional and ethical standards.

Qualifications

• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) required.

• Associate's degree in interpreting, Deaf Education, or a related field preferred.

• Educational interpreting experience preferred.

• EIPA score, RID certification, or other relevant interpreting credentials preferred.

• Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.

• Knowledge of educational terminology and school-based practices preferred.

• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary educational team.
