Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced Should Costing Engineer with strong expertise in automotive or manufacturing industries. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing component-level cost analysis, manufacturing cost breakdowns, and supplier negotiation support for engineering parts and assemblies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop should cost models for automotive and manufacturing components
- Perform target costing and cost benchmarking for new parts
- Analyze supplier quotations and prepare detailed negotiation reports for commodity teams
- Identify key cost drivers, savings opportunities, and optimization strategies
- Perform manufacturing process selection, machine planning, and cycle time calculations
- Evaluate machine hourly rates (MHR), overheads, and profit margins
- Conduct cost mapping for engineering parts and assemblies
- Support supplier negotiations with data-driven cost breakdowns
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
- Work with cross-functional teams including engineering, sourcing, and supply chain
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Mandatory)
7-10 years of experience in Should Costing / Cost Engineering
Strong experience in automotive, tractor, off-highway (T&OH), or manufacturing industries
Hands-on knowledge of manufacturing processes:
Sheet Metal (must have)
Plastics (must have)
Machining, Rubber, Assemblies
Strong understanding of:
Machine selection
Cycle time calculation
Cost drivers and estimation techniques
MHR (Machine Hour Rate), overheads, profit modeling
Experience in GD&T and engineering drawing interpretation
Experience with ERP/SAP systems

Hands-on experience with should costing tools:
