For over 100 years, Maguire has been an industry leader in the fabrication, construction, and maintenance of water storage tanks and elevated water towers. Under general direction, the Quality Control and Safety Inspector will be responsible for establishing an environment where personnel can excel in the productivity and quality of fabricated products and by helping ensure a safe work environment. 

Essential Functions:

Quality Control:

  • Track material/welds by using the Quality Control Travelers for all fabricated sections of towers and parts.
  • Identify poor quality issues stop production and instruct re-work.
  • Track x-rays of all inspected welds
  • Ensure compliance with welding and fitting SOP(s)
  • Inspect painted material for defects and proper coverages
  • Ensures work areas are clean and organized
  • Ensure all paperwork is properly filled out and filed
  • Ensures shop safety standards are met by employees and visitors.
  • Provide ongoing training for current employees.  (Toolbox Talks, Overhead Crane, Forklift, etc.)
  • Assist with creating/implementing Fabrication safety SOPs, policies, welding procedures, and guidelines; enforce compliance across all operations.
  • Collaborate with Maguire leadership and staff to proactively identify and correct workplace safety hazards; immediately stop any operation presenting imminent danger to personnel or equipment.
  • Conduct regular and thorough safety inspections, documenting and addressing any deficiencies.
  • Assist with all injuries (First Aid or Work Comp) that may occur on-campus and manage accordingly.

Training:

  • Conduct and grade applicant and in-house weld tests
  • Communicate quality expectations, review weld procedures and expectations.
  • Keep Fabrication Manager informed of new hire progress.
  • Keep updated welder certifications and welding program in accordance with D100
  • Provide ongoing training for current employees.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in production welding supervision.
  • Knowledge of fabrication process and techniques.
  • Knowledge of welding techniques and materials.
  • Proven experience in getting work done through others in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as ASME Code, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruction furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Work Environment:

  • Must be able to weld components that are vertical, flat, or overhead.
  • Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
  • Must be able to work outside in both a hot and cold environment.
  • Prolonged periods standing and walking.
  • Adhere to Maguire’s PPE Policy and Safety Programs.
  • Requires close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work with ladders, catwalks and in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.

Maguire

In the early 1900’s Michael J. Maguire emigrated from Ireland to the Newton/Waltham area where he worked in the plumbing industry. He served in the United States Army during WW1 and following discharge, he continued working in the plumbing industry.

Circa 1922 he began providing plumbing and steam heating services as Michael J. Maguire Plumbing and Heating with three employees working on residential projects. Michael Maguire’s three sons William, Robert and Michael became master plumbers. His second son, Robert, grew the business to include commercial service and construction projects and incorporated the firm in 1969 as Maguire Company, Inc.

Robert’s second son, Dennis V. Maguire, became a master plumber and has continued the family tradition. Today the Maguire Company, Inc. is a vibrant third-generation family owned and operated corporation providing a wide range of plumbing, heating, mechanical contracting services to residential, commercial and institutional clients.
