Lawrence Companies is seeking an experienced Diesel Truck Shop Foreman to lead the day-to-day operations of our diesel maintenance and repair shop. This position combines hands-on technical expertise with shop leadership, work assignment, quality control, technician support, and coordination with operations.
The ideal candidate will have strong diesel diagnostic and repair experience, the ability to lead technicians effectively, and a working knowledge of commercial trucks, trailers, preventive maintenance, and DOT-related repair standards.
Responsibilities
Direct and coordinate daily shop workflow, repair assignments, and technician priorities
Supervise, support, and provide technical guidance to diesel technicians and shop personnel
Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, air brake, aftertreatment, and engine-related issues
Assist with hands-on repairs and troubleshooting as needed
Review repair orders and completed work for accuracy, quality, safety, and completeness
Ensure preventive maintenance inspections/repairs are completed according to company/regulatory standards
Monitor equipment downtime and help prioritize repairs based on operational needs
Coordinate parts, outside repairs, vendor services, and equipment availability as needed
Maintain accurate shop records, repair documentation, and maintenance information
Promote safe work practices and ensure shop policies and procedures are followed
Maintain an organized, productive, and professional shop environment
Assist with training and development of technicians
Communicate repair status, equipment concerns, and operational needs with management and other departments
Qualifications
Prior experience repairing and maintaining Class 7 and Class 8 commercial trucks required
Previous shop leadership, lead technician, or foreman experience strongly preferred
Strong diesel diagnostic and troubleshooting ability
Knowledge of diesel engines, air brake systems, electrical systems, suspension, steering, HVAC, and after treatment systems
Experience with diagnostic software and electronic troubleshooting preferred
Knowledge of DOT inspection and commercial vehicle maintenance requirements preferred
Ability to organize shop workflow, prioritize repairs, and effectively direct technicians
Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
Ability to safely operate applicable hand, power, diagnostic, and shop equipment
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
CDL preferred but not required
Ability to perform the position's essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation, including lifting up to 75 pounds and working in, around, and underneath commercial vehicles
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred
