Description

Clayton Services is searching for a Shop Floor Technician to join a growing manufacturing organization in Houston. The Shop Floor Technician will support production operations through material handling, assembly, fabrication support, finishing work, equipment operation, and general shop responsibilities. Candidates with a strong construction background and experience reading plans, taking measurements, or working with materials such as glass, cabinetry, or metal are highly encouraged to apply.

Job Type: Temp-to-Hire
Pay Rate: $18.00 - $20.00/hour, with flexibility for highly qualified candidates

Shop Floor Technician Responsibilities:

  • Assist with material preparation, movement, and handling throughout the production process
  • Read basic plans, drawings, or work instructions to complete assigned tasks accurately
  • Take accurate measurements using a tape measure and other basic measuring tools
  • Support fabrication, assembly, finishing, polishing, and general production activities
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and production equipment in accordance with safety guidelines
  • Assist with the handling and preparation of glass, metal, cabinetry components, and other manufactured materials
  • Prepare finished products for packaging, shipping, and delivery
  • Inspect materials and completed work for quality, measurements, and accuracy
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Follow company safety procedures and quality standards at all times
  • Work closely with production team members to meet project schedules and production goals
  • Participate in cross-training opportunities to learn additional equipment and production processes
  • Assist with general shop duties and other tasks as assigned

Shop Floor Technician Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong construction, manufacturing, fabrication, or skilled labor background preferred
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure and take basic measurements
  • Ability to read basic construction plans, drawings, blueprints, or specifications preferred
  • Experience using common hand tools and power tools
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work with different materials
  • Experience with glass, cabinetry, metal fabrication, stainless steel, polishing, or buffing is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
  • Dependable attendance and strong work ethic
  • Willingness to learn new skills and operate various types of equipment
  • Ability to follow instructions, procedures, and safety requirements
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Shop Floor Technician Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Basic math and measurement skills required
  • Previous experience in construction, manufacturing, fabrication, production, assembly, or a skilled labor environment strongly preferred
  • Experience reading plans, drawings, or blueprints is highly preferred
  • Experience working with glass, cabinetry, polishing or buffing metal, stainless steel, or similar materials is a plus
  • Experience operating industrial or production equipment is a plus
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screening

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the workday
  • Ability to safely handle materials, tools, and equipment
  • Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment with machinery, noise, and dust

Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Overtime may be required based on production demands
