Role Overview
The Shift Manager is responsible for the end-to-end performance of an assigned shift, ensuring efficient workflow, strong team performance, and strict adherence to quality and safety standards. This role drives operational excellence across all shift departments through an effective coaching style, team metrics, and strategic labor management.
Responsibilities
- Own overall shift performance by managing workflow, escalations, and coordination across all production departments
- Monitor key performance indicators including productivity, quality, and downtime to drive continuous improvement
- Participate in capacity and labor planning, adjusting shift workflows dynamically to address constraints and meet volume demand
- Lead, coach, and develop the shift Associate Manager, Team Captains, and production team members to foster a culture of accountability
- Drive performance goals utilizing data and metrics at both the team and individual levels across quality, productivity, and attendance
- Manage labor resources effectively and execute process improvements to standardize operational efficiency
- Ensure clear communication across shifts and departments, including thorough documentation of issues and operational updates
- Enforce safety, compliance, and operational standards while actively supporting facility audits and corrective actions
- Collaborate closely with production directors and peer shift managers to perfectly align schedules, priorities, and organizational goals
Reporting Relationships
- Reports To: Director of Production
- Direct Reports: 1 shift-level Associate Manager and 5 Team Captains (overseeing a production team of 50 - 70 associates)
About You
- Bring proven leadership and operations management experience within manufacturing, production, or fast-paced logistics environments
- Demonstrate strong critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills
- Possess direct experience managing team performance and using operational metrics to drive measurable results
- Understand how to manage labor workflows effectively to drive P&L and operational efficiency
- Exhibit an authentic coaching style with a track record of developing supervisors or team leads and building high-performing teams
- Show a strong ability to communicate and collaborate across multiple teams and shifts without working in a silo
- Maintain full comfort directing work, troubleshooting operational bottlenecks, and coordinating with maintenance teams when equipment issues arise
- Exercise excellent judgment in high-pressure, fast-paced environments to make real-time course corrections
