The Sheriffs Department is recruiting for Unmanned Aeriel Specialists to provide aerial intelligence support to the Real-Time Information Center (RTIC). Essential duties include deploying and operating drones to provide aerial observation during critical incidents, searches, and law enforcement operations supported by the RTIC; monitoring drone operations and ensuring aerial video feeds are integrated into the RTIC operation environment to support situational awareness for field personnel; and conducting pre-flight planning, airspace coordination, and safety checks to ensure drone operations comply with applicable FAA regulations and department policies.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

1) Background Investigations: Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony and must successfully pass an extensive background investigation, which includes a medical, drug, and fingerprint check, and a polygraph examination.

2) Availability: The Sheriffs Department is a "24/7" operation. Applicants must be available to work all shifts, including rotating shifts that may include weekends and holidays, and may be required to assist after normal duty hours in emergency situations.

3) Travel: A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.

4) Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

Minimum Requirements

Experience: Two (2) years of full-time equivalent work experience which involved providing support functions for sworn law enforcement personnel in the following areas: evidence collection, storage and security; assisting with investigations; equipment inventory, maintenance, storage, and transportation; and contacting and coordinating services with internal and external agencies/departments.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • An FAA Part 107 certificate.
  • Experience using Evidence.com and the Property and Evidence Tracking System (PETS).
  • A thorough understanding of the chain of custody.
