    Sewing Class Instructor
     
    What’s the Job?
    We are seeking a passionate and skilled Sewing Class Instructor to lead a variety of engaging and educational sewing classes for youth aged 5-12, teens, and adults. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children, strong sewing skills (machine and hand), and the ability to create a fun and supportive learning environment. All materials and machines will be provided.
     
    What You Get:

    When You’ll Work: 
    The Sewing Class Instructor role is a part-time, year-round position. This position will typically teach programming in the evenings, but there may be additional daytime classes during holiday breaks or on Saturdays. Each class is approximately 2 hours long, but the shift will be a total of 3.25 hours (with 45 minutes of set up and 30 minutes of clean up). Future seasons may offer more flexibility depending on your schedule.
     
    What You’ll Do:      
    • Plan and lead seasonal sewing classes, adapting lessons to different age groups and skill levels.
    • Teach basic to intermediate sewing techniques, including fabric cutting, hand stitching, and machine sewing.
    • Assist participants in the creation of projects such as pillows, fashion accessories, or small decorative items. Offer guidance and encouragement to students while fostering creativity and problem-solving.
    • Manage classroom behavior and ensure all equipment is used properly.
    Qualifications:   
    • Must be at least 18 years old. 
    • Proficiency in sewing, both by hand and with a machine.
    • Exhibit problem-solving abilities, adaptability, safety awareness, good judgement, and willingness to learn. 
    • Possess good communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with co-workers and program participants, especially children.
    • Prior experience leading children’s activities and strong classroom management skills preferred. 
    • First Aid/CPR certified within 90 days (training provided by Park District if needed).
