    Position Summary 

    The Shop Technician is responsible for the pre‑deployment preparation, configuration, and validation of copier and printer equipment prior to delivery to customer locations. This role supports operational efficiency by ensuring devices are properly assembled, pre‑configured, tested, and deployment‑ready before entering the field service workflow. 

    The Shop Technician works in a controlled shop environment and collaborates closely with Warehouse, Delivery, Scheduling, and Project teams. This role is not customer‑facing and does not perform on‑site installations or live customer network integration. 

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities 

    Equipment Preparation & Configuration 

    • Assemble, pre‑configure, program, and test copier and printer equipment using standard configuration templates and documented customer requirements to prepare devices for deployment. 
    • Apply firmware updates, default settings, and device configurations in accordance with manufacturer standards and internal guidelines. 
    • Perform quality checks to confirm equipment functionality before shipment. 

    Pre‑Deployment Validation 

    • Validate basic device networking functionality in a controlled shop environment to ensure equipment is operational and deployment‑ready before delivery. 
    • Conduct test printing and scanning to confirm device readiness and identify potential issues before deployment. 
    • Identify, document, and escalate configuration or hardware issues discovered during pre‑deployment testing. 

    Asset Handling & Reverse Logistics 

    • Remove and cleanse hard drives from returned equipment in accordance with data security and compliance requirements. 
    • Prepare devices for reverse logistics, refurbishment, or redeployment as directed. 
    • Maintain accurate records related to equipment status, configuration, and asset tracking. 

    Collaboration & Operational Support 

    • Work collaboratively with senior technical staff to troubleshoot and resolve basic configuration or hardware issues. 
    • Coordinate with Warehouse and Delivery teams to support efficient equipment staging, inventory flow, and deployment schedules. 
    • Maintain job‑related systems and databases in real time. 

    Workspace & Safety 

    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with 5S and safety standards. 
    • Assist with general warehouse duties as needed, including inventory management and equipment movement (training provided). 

    Qualifications and Experience 

    Minimum Qualifications  

    • High School Diploma or GED required. 
    • Basic mechanical experience preferred, including setting up machines, removing hard drives, and handling similar technical tasks. 
    • Ability to interact effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals. 
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills with customers and coworkers. 
    • Must be independent, self-motivated, and attentive to detail. 
    • Basic computer skills are required. 

    Preferred Qualifications  

    • Two or more years of experience in a production or manufacturing environment. 
    • Two or more years in a role specific to the copier, printer, or Managed Print Services (MPS) industry. 
    • Two or more years (or educational equivalent) in an electronics-based technical role. 
    • Basic to moderate experience with IT networking. 
    • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

    • Lift, push, pull, or move up to 50 pounds. 
    • Read computer screens and written materials.

    Work Environment 

    The position offers a good working environment without disagreeable conditions. While working in the warehouse, the noise level is typically moderate.
