What You'll Do as a Set-Up Machinist:- Set up, adjust, and operate CNC mill-turn machines for precision machining operations
- Verify tooling, offsets, feeds, speeds, and workholding to support efficient production
- Read engineering drawings, calculate dimensions and tolerances, and manufacture parts according to specifications
- Inspect finished and in-process parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring equipment
- Troubleshoot machine, tooling, fixture, and process issues and make necessary adjustments
- Collaborate with programmers and department leads on challenging jobs, tooling requirements, and production improvements
- Follow required safety, quality, traceability, and documentation procedures
What You Need to Bring to the Set-Up Machinist Role:- 4–7 years of CNC machining and setup experience, preferably in precision manufacturing
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and CNC programs
- Strong knowledge of cutting tools, feeds and speeds, workholding, and close-tolerance machining
- Proficiency with precision measuring equipment, including calipers, micrometers, and gauges
- Ability to independently troubleshoot machining and setup issues
- Understanding of CAD/CAM technology; experience with GibbsCAM or ESPRIT-generated programs preferred
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to approximately 50 pounds #smncareers
