The Tester will work closely with ServiceNow Business Analysts, Architects, Developers, Administrators, IRS stakeholders, and program leadership to develop and execute comprehensive testing activities throughout the software development and release lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with ServiceNow testing, functional and regression testing, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), integration testing, defect management, and ServiceNow Automated Test Framework (ATF).

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute comprehensive test strategies, test plans, test cases, test scripts, and test scenarios for ServiceNow applications and enhancements.
  • Review business requirements, Agile user stories, acceptance criteria, functional specifications, and technical designs to develop appropriate testing approaches.
  • Perform functional, regression, integration, system, smoke, and end-to-end testing of ServiceNow applications and workflows.
  • Test ServiceNow modules including ITSM, ITOM, ITAM, CMDB/CSDM, Service Catalog, Knowledge Management, and other enterprise applications as applicable.
  • Validate ServiceNow configurations, workflows, business rules, forms, notifications, approvals, SLAs, roles, access controls, and user experiences.
  • Perform testing of ServiceNow integrations and interfaces, including validation of data exchanged between ServiceNow and external/legacy systems.
  • Validate REST/SOAP APIs and integration functionality as required.
  • Develop and maintain automated test cases using ServiceNow Automated Test Framework (ATF).
  • Execute automated and manual regression testing following ServiceNow enhancements, releases, patches, upgrades, and configuration changes.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) by preparing test scenarios, coordinating test execution, documenting results, and validating business acceptance criteria.
  • Perform UI and usability validation to ensure delivered functionality meets approved requirements and provides an effective end-user experience.
  • Support IRS Section 508 accessibility testing for ServiceNow applications and interfaces. The PWS specifically identifies support for the IRS 508 testing process for the ServiceNow platform.
  • Validate ServiceNow applications and solutions developed by IRS teams or third-party organizations before promotion into production.
  • Perform testing and validation of code migrations and deployments across Development, Test/UAT, and Production environments.
  • Participate in ServiceNow upgrade testing, including regression testing, upgrade validation, and post-upgrade verification.
  • Identify, document, prioritize, and track defects through resolution using appropriate defect-management processes and tools.
  • Perform defect retesting and regression testing following fixes and configuration changes.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis with developers and technical teams for complex or recurring defects.
  • Maintain requirements traceability between requirements, user stories, test cases, defects, and test results.
  • Prepare test execution reports, defect reports, test summary reports, and release-readiness assessments.
  • Provide clear testing status, risks, issues, defects, and recommendations to technical and program leadership.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and release planning.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts to ensure requirements and acceptance criteria are sufficiently testable.
  • Work with developers and architects during design and development to identify potential quality risks before implementation.
  • Support production releases and provide post-implementation/post-upgrade validation.
  • Participate in disaster recovery and filing-season readiness testing activities when required.
  • Maintain testing documentation, reusable test assets, automation scripts, and testing standards.
  • Identify opportunities to increase automation, improve test coverage, reduce regression-testing effort, and strengthen overall quality.
  • Ensure testing activities follow applicable IRS policies, security requirements, accessibility requirements, quality standards, and change-management procedures.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in software quality assurance/testing, preferably supporting enterprise applications.
  • 3+ years of experience testing ServiceNow applications or ServiceNow-based enterprise solutions.
  • Strong experience developing and executing test plans, test cases, test scenarios, and test scripts.
  • Experience with functional, regression, integration, system, UAT, and end-to-end testing.
  • Hands-on experience with ServiceNow Automated Test Framework (ATF).
  • Experience testing ServiceNow workflows, configurations, business rules, forms, notifications, approvals, Service Catalog, SLAs, and access controls.
  • Experience validating ServiceNow integrations and APIs.
  • Experience with defect lifecycle management, defect triage, root-cause analysis, and retesting.
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum and SDLC/STLC environments.
  • Experience working with ServiceNow Development, Test/UAT, and Production environments.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work closely with developers, architects, business analysts, administrators, and government stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent experience testing a large-scale Federal ServiceNow/ITSM environment.
  • ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) or relevant ServiceNow certification.

  • Experience with ServiceNow upgrades and release validation.
  • Experience testing ITSM, ITOM, ITAM, CMDB/CSDM, HRSD, CSM, SPM, or other ServiceNow modules.
  • Experience with API testing using REST/SOAP and tools such as Postman or SoapUI.
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with Section 508/WCAG accessibility testing, including tools such as JAWS, NVDA, or similar assistive technologies.
