Job Description

Location: 5300 S & S Street

Pay Grade: A03

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Under general supervision, assists in the construction, repair, and maintenance of the citys streets and stormwater system.

• This position performs duties deemed to be "safety-sensitive" and is therefore subjected to random drug testing under the City's policies*

Essential Job Functions

• Installs proper warning devices at work sites.
• Measures, assembles, and sets forms for concrete; pours and finishes concrete.
• Repairs and builds storm drain boxes and pipes.
• Purchases, picks up, and delivers materials to work sites.
• Operates a wide variety of hand and power tools.
• Cleans clogged storm drains.
• Removes dead animals from the road.
• Transports heavy equipment to and from job sites.
• Operates a snow plow.
• Lays stormwater pipe.
• Operates an excavator, backhoe, and front-end loader.
• Repairs traffic control devices; designs, fabricates, and installs street signs.
• Completes daily reports on duties performed.
• Sprays pesticides for mosquito control.
• Operates a patch truck and repairs pot holes and leaking pipes.
• Repairs manhole lids.
• Removes trees and cleans storm damage.
• Loads and unloads trucks by hand or with equipment.
• Mows grass, lays sod and operates a weed eater.
• Responsible for pesticide analysis and adverse incident inspection (A.I.I)
• Assists with closing roads in high water.
• Performs routine maintenance on trucks and equipment.
• Provides traffic control devices for City emergencies, special events and other departments.
• Sets traffic counts Citywide.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by a minimum of 1 year of related experience. An applicant who does not possess a high school diploma or GED at the time of hire may be considered for employment provided the individual obtains a high school diploma or GED within twelve (12) months from the date of hire. An employee hired under this provision must obtain the required high school diploma or GED within twelve (12) months of the employees hire date, is responsible for all costs associated with obtaining the required education or credential, must complete all coursework, preparation, testing, and other requirements on the employees own time and outside of regular work hours, is not eligible for promotion, transfer, or reclassification to another City position until the education requirement for the position into which the employee was originally hired has been satisfied, and must provide acceptable documentation verifying completion of the high school diploma or GED requirement to the HR Department within the required twelve (12) month timeframe. Failure to obtain the required high school diploma or GED within twelve (12) months of the hire date will result in separation from employment for failure to meet the minimum qualifications for the position. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class A CDL Drivers License issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Physical Requirements

Tasks involve the ability to exert exceptionally strong physical effort in very heavy work, typically involving some combination of balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, handling, hearing, kneeling, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, walking and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 150 pounds). Must submit to a drug screening and fitness to work physical.

Retirement

• The City offers a 401(a) defined contribution retirement plan through the Oklahoma Municipal Retirement Fund (OMRF). The City contributes 10% of the employees' earnings into the plan. Employees become 20% vested after three years and vesting increases 20% for each additional year of service until 100% vesting is achieved at seven years. Employees may elect to contribute an additional amount.
• The City also offers access to a 457 retirement plan, both traditional and Roth, through Mission Square retirement.

Preferred Providers

Through our preferred providers, the City is pleased to offer anyone on the health plan access to medical services at no additional cost.

• Clinic: Anyone on the City's medical plan can access the Remedy Health clinics, including their on-site pharmacies, labs and imaging services at no cost.
• ZERO Card: Zero offers a wide range of services that may be ordered by your doctor, including labs, imaging, colonoscopies, orthopedic surgery, sleep studies, physical therapy and more- all at no cost to the employee.

Paid Leave

• Vacation: One week of vacation is available after six months of employment. Thereafter, vacation is accrued monthly according to year of service.

Procedure: Vacation leave cannot exceed the actual accrued number of hours earned by the employee. Holidays and other non-scheduled workdays shall not be computed in vacation leave expenditure. Each department establishes its own vacation scheduling procedures. Vacation cannot be used as the last day of employment.

• Holidays: Twelve paid holidays, plus one floating holiday each year.
• Sick: Eight hours per month up to maximum of 1,040 hours (130 working days).

• Life Insurance & Long-Term Disability - The City pays the entire premium for a term life insurance policy, as well as a long-term disability benefit that replaces part of your salary if you become unable to work for several months. The life insurance is equal to the employee's annual salary.
